The 3D Piping Design Engineer is responsible for developing, reviewing, and coordinating 3D piping layouts and detailed engineering deliverables for thermal, combined-cycle, nuclear, biomass, or other power generation facilities. The role involves creating accurate plant models, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Engineering & Design
- Develop 3D piping models using software such as:
- AVEVA E3D
- AVEVA PDMS
- SmartPlant 3D
- AutoCAD Plant 3D
- Bentley OpenPlant
- Prepare piping layouts, routing studies, and equipment arrangements.
- Generate piping isometrics, general arrangement drawings, and fabrication drawings.
- Develop piping support layouts and coordinate support requirements with structural teams.
- Perform clash detection and resolve inter-discipline conflicts.
Coordination
- Interface with process, mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines.
- Participate in model reviews and design review meetings.
- Coordinate vendor package integration into the plant 3D model.
Technical Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, including:
- ASME B31.1 / B31.3
- ANSI
- API standards where applicable
- Client specifications and project procedures
- Ensure maintainability, accessibility, operability, and safety requirements are met.
Deliverables
- 3D model development and maintenance.
- Plot plans and equipment layouts.
- Piping GA drawings.
- Isometric drawings.
- Pipe support drawings.
- MTO (Material Take-Off) reports.
- Clash reports and model review reports.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of piping layout and design principles.
- Knowledge of steam-water cycle systems, cooling water systems, fuel systems, and utility piping.
- Familiarity with piping materials and specifications.
- Ability to read PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment datasheets.
- Experience with 3D model review and clash resolution.
