Job Description

What you'll own

Modelling and asset creation

  • Build accurate, production-ready 3D models of products, accessories and packaging from CAD files, technical drawings, physical samples or concept sketches
  • Clean topology and correct UV unwrapping suitable for high-resolution texturing
  • Maintain an organised, reusable asset and material library — models, shaders, lighting rigs, HDRIs, scene templates
  • Build packaging and dieline mockups from Illustrator artwork

Texturing and shading

  • Author PBR materials that behave correctly under different lighting — plastics, silicone, TPU, metals, glass, coated and matte finishes, printed graphics, fabrics
  • Reproduce real substrate and finish characteristics accurately, working from physical samples
  • Apply production artwork to models correctly, respecting print area, bleed and wrap behaviour

Lighting and rendering

  • Design studio and environment lighting setups that make products read well and consistently
  • Deliver final-quality stills, turntables, exploded views, detail crops and short animations
  • Manage render settings, sampling, denoising and output for both speed and quality; keep a rendering pipeline that doesn't bottleneck the team

Colour and post-production

  • Work in a controlled colour pipeline: correct gamma / linear workflow, scene-referred vs display-referred handling, ACES or equivalent, colour space discipline from texture input through to final export
  • Composite and finish in Photoshop with non-destructive, revisable layer work
  • Soft-proof renders against our print output profiles so what a client approves is what we can actually manufacture
  • Deliver correctly prepared assets for each destination: e-commerce, print, social, presentation

Presentation and communication

  • Build and deliver client-facing presentations — concept decks, design reviews, product pitches
  • Produce mood boards, concept boards and visual narratives that explain a design direction, not just show it
  • Take design feedback in a live review and turn it around quickly
  • Present technical constraints to non-technical stakeholders clearly

AI-assisted workflow

  • Use generative and AI tools intelligently to accelerate ideation, texture generation, upscaling, background work and variant exploration
  • Know where these tools help and where they fail — and never let them compromise dimensional accuracy or colour fidelity on production work
  • Stay current as the tooling changes, and bring useful additions to the team

What we're looking for

Must have

  • 3+ years producing commercial product renders, with a portfolio that demonstrates photoreal quality
  • Strong command of at least one 3D package — Blender, Cinema 4D, 3ds Max, Maya, or Rhino
  • Production experience with a physically-based render engine — V-Ray, Corona, Redshift, Octane, Cycles, Arnold or KeyShot
  • Advanced Photoshop (compositing, retouching, non-destructive workflow) and solid Illustrator (vector artwork, dielines, artwork prep)
  • Real understanding of gamma and colour space management — linear workflow, sRGB / Adobe RGB, tone mapping, why a render looks different across viewers and how to fix it
  • Working fluency with current AI tools (Midjourney, Firefly, Stable Diffusion / ComfyUI, AI upscalers) in a professional workflow
  • Genuine presentation ability — you can stand in front of a client and carry the room
  • Strong photographic instincts: composition, lighting, lens behaviour, depth of field

Good to have

  • Substance 3D Painter / Designer for texturing
  • CAD familiarity — SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or STEP/IGES import cleanup
  • Real-time rendering — Unreal Engine, Marmoset Toolbag
  • Motion work — After Effects, product animation, simple simulation
  • Studio product photography experience (it makes better renders)
  • Print production knowledge — how a render differs from a printed result and why
  • Figma, Keynote or equivalent for deck building

Portfolio requirements

A portfolio is mandatory. We will not review applications without one. Please include:

  • At least three product visualisation projects, ideally consumer goods
  • Wireframe or viewport screenshots alongside finals, so we can see your modelling and not just your compositing
  • One before/after showing your post-production work
  • If available: a client presentation or concept deck you personally built and delivered
  • A note on which parts of each project were yours, if the work was collaborative
