Job Description

As an Associate at WSP you will lead and manage the Waste Water Modelling Team having to manage a sizeable Team of Drainage Engineers.

You will be working closely with UK business and with Team Leader – Waste Water Modelling in order to help out in resourcing needs and commercial side of the Projects. You will report to the Team Leader for Asset Consultancy.

You will also be responsible for Technical assurance, winning work, manage and control Projects and Project budgets and helping out on recruitments. Additionally, you will work with the Principal Engineers on Team's skill development and KPI's.

You will be overseeing engineering design work and ensuring compliance with best practices and UK regulations.

Responsibilities

Excellent inter-personal skills with good technical leadership abilities capable of communicating effectively and lead technical discussions with all parts of the business within GCC and UK.
Strong commercial and strategic capability with a demonstrable track record in having identified and subsequently delivered new business opportunities.

Demonstrate the desire to constantly improve, motivate and encourage others, lead and implement change programmes, inspiring colleagues and drive an innovative and supportive culture. Act as a catalyst for change and bring technical Excellence in Drainage designs.

A broad range of project experience, both within Discipline and multi-disciplinary.
Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively, use own knowledge to support and coach others as required. Actively champion sharing knowledge, ideas and intelligence. Strong presentation skills, able to lead and facilitate workshops, training sessions and one to one learning. Influential and persuasive internally and externally, encourages open dialogue and feedback.
Able to reason logically and apply a systematic process to finding solutions, proactive in responding to problems, able to apply sound logic in situations of ambiguity and problem-solving methodologies across a range of circumstances.
Manage the Projects and processes to ensure the preparation and checking of documents, reports and other technical outputs as per QA.
Lead to prepare design solutions and develop methodologies, technical reports for various design stages for drainage projects.
Identify further Technical skills that could be brought into the GCC to deliver additional services or enhancements to various businesses.
Ensure process and governance such that all projects comply with Health and Safety, CDM and Quality Assurance Standards.
Undertake the Principal Designer Role in large size schemes.
Win Work mindset and align the business to secure major opportunities and an increasing work orders.
Must undertake continuous professional development.
Carry out audits of adherence to WSP Management and Quality processes and implement corrective measures where required.
Actively promote the UK GCC culture within the team and ensure that the staff deliver on promises.
Mentoring team members towards professional accreditation or equivalent.
Assist in recruitment to achieve budgeted and programmed team growth.
Ensuring that the Business Management System is implemented and maintained.

Qualifications

Key Competencies / Mandatory skills

Experience of one or more areas of UK Water distribution industry projects.

Urban drainage modelling / Waste water modelling.
Model verification .
Needs Assessment & Optioneering.

Experience in appropriate modelling software Infoworks ICM and GIS softwares.
Good written and verbal communication skills in English are essential.
Competent in MS Office.
Ability to work on own initiative on technical matters.
Excellent communication, internal client handling, interpersonal skills and listening skills with the ability to influence and interact with people.
Comfortable leading internal engineering discussions and the experience and ability to understand, evaluate and explain complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical professionals.
A hard-working self-starter with initiative and ability to work within a team environment.
Understand own strengths and impact, adapting behaviors according to different situations and individuals.
Able to work effectively under pressure and Open-minded and intellectually agile.
Act ethically with fairness, honesty and integrity.
You should have demonstrable experience of resource and project management.
You will be aware of current and emerging technologies relevant to climate change and sustainability.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and with time management and strong organizational skills.

Qualifications

Masters Degree in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering.
Professional accreditation from ICE or CIWEM or pursuing.
Good understanding of water and wastewater projects, preferably with exposure to standards and specifications in the UK Water Industry. A Minimum of 15 years industry experience is desired but not essential.
Chartered Engineer status of a recognised professional institution (e.g. ICE, CIWEM) is preferred.
