Job Summary

The Senior Investigator is responsible for leading complex and sensitive investigations involving employee misconduct, financial crime, regulatory breaches, data misuse, conflicts of interest, fraud, corruption and other matters that may expose the Bank to financial, regulatory, legal or reputational risk.

The role delivers independent, objective and evidence-based investigations in accordance with Group Investigations standards, ensuring findings are robust, defensible and capable of withstanding internal and external scrutiny. Drives quality, consistency and defensibility of investigation outputs, while providing challenge and quality assurance to other investigators.

The role provides expert investigative advice to senior stakeholders, identifies themes and root causes arising from investigations, and supports the strengthening of the Bank's control environment. The Senior Investigator works closely with Legal, Compliance, CFCC, HR, Employee Relations and business stakeholders to ensure timely management of investigative risks, appropriate remediation of control weaknesses, and effective protection of the Bank's interests.

The role also contributes to intelligence gathering, data analytics, eDiscovery activities, regulatory and law enforcement engagement, and the continuous enhancement of investigative capabilities across India and the wider Asia region.

Senior Investigator is expected to coach colleagues, provide constructive feedback, evaluate lessons learned, and help foster a high-performance culture.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy

Shapes investigative approaches for complex matters. Influences investigative standards, methodologies, capability building and process improvements across country/region.
Utilise external and internal networks to build strong liaison across the Group.

Business

Acts as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders.
Oversees reporting quality and communicates themes, trends, lessons learned and remediation priorities.
Coordinate identification of themes, trends and lessons learnt from investigations in SCB India and regionally to support the continuous improvement of the Bank's conduct and control environment.

Processes

Leads the most complex and sensitive investigations.
Provides case supervision, reviews investigative decisions, challenges evidence assessments and ensures proportionality, quality and consistency across investigations.

People & Talent

Coaches and mentors investigators.
Provides constructive feedback, develops capability, promotes standards and helps build a high-performance culture.

Risk Management

Identifies systemic risks, recurring issues, control weaknesses and root causes.
Challenges remediation efforts and provides strategic risk insights to stakeholders.
Maintain close interaction with those Risk Owners to whom responsibility is delegated to ensure resolution of system and control improvements identified through the Group Investigations process.
Ensure regional senior management are fully informed of all key risks and issues in area of responsibility and reported in line with Bank's operational risk process.

Governance

Provides oversight and assurance that investigations remain fair, independent, proportionate and compliant with standards.
Oversees governance in significant cases.

Regulatory & Business Conduct

Qualifications

Minimum 12 years of substantive background in enforcement actions, investigations or prosecutorial and regulatory agency environment, with local expertise within India primarily and other Asia markets.
Certified Fraud Examiner accreditation or similar.
Bachelor's degree in relevant field, such as Legal, Business, Finance, or Accountancy.
Sharp business acumen with experience of investigations in white collar corporate environment and/or experience advising or managing complex investigations and related risks representing financial institutions.
Excellent investigation, analytical, problem solving, risk mitigation and report writing skills.
Demonstrated ability to conduct best practice investigations with a high level of integrity, independence, resilience, professionalism and discretion.
Understanding of the key features of relevant laws and regulations relevant to Bank and the role of Investigations.
Knowledge and sound judgement of business practices, regulatory relationship management and reputational risk.
Experience leading investigative teams both in person and remotely.
