This internship provides structured exposure to coding assignments and documentation-review workflows under supervision. Candidates will learn how clinical information is translated into standardized codes while following established coding guidelines and quality procedures.

The role does not involve diagnosing patients, providing medical advice, or making independent clinical decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Review assigned healthcare documentation and identify relevant diagnosis and procedure information.

• Apply medical terminology and anatomy knowledge when reviewing documentation.

• Practice assigning ICD-10-CM codes to documented diagnoses under supervision.

• Work with CPT coding concepts for documented procedures and services.

• Compare coding assignments against applicable guidelines and references.

• Identify incomplete, unclear, or inconsistent information in assigned records.

• Perform basic coding accuracy and completeness checks.

• Maintain coding worksheets, assignment trackers, and related documentation.

• Research coding references when clarification is required.

• Document coding questions and escalate uncertain cases to the appropriate reviewer.

• Follow established coding standards, confidentiality requirements, and project procedures.

• Assist with related healthcare documentation and revenue-cycle activities.
