About The Hosteller

The Hosteller started in 2015, when backpacker hostels weren't a category in India yet. Seventy-plus properties later, we're the country's largest self-operated hostel chain — and we've never really sold beds. We sell the common room at 11pm, the trek someone talks you into, the table that had four people and now has seven. Belonging is the product. The whole brand runs on one line: go meet your people.

Role overview

Set the edit quality and the format language for a daily short-form engine running across 75 hostels and use AI video tools to produce what a shoot alone can't.

Content is The Hosteller's primary acquisition channel, not a support function. Capture is distributed across the network, creators travelling on barter, paid influencers, guests filming anyway and it arrives raw, uneven and constant. Production stays central. This seat is where that raw feed becomes work that looks like one brand, every day, without the volume flattening the craft.

It is a senior IC seat with a bar-setting mandate: the house style is defined here, the hardest cuts are done here, and the video editor is mentored here.

Responsibilities

Edit quality and format

  • Own the edit bar for all short-form output: reels, property films, campaign cutdowns, launch assets
  • Define the house style — pacing, sound design, cut language — so 75 locations read as one brand rather than 75 feeds
  • Develop formats and hooks built around what is working on-platform now, not what worked last year, and document them as repeatable templates the team can run
  • Take the hardest and highest-stakes cuts personally: hero films, launches, brand-defining pieces

AI-assisted video

  • Use current AI video tools (Runway, Kling, Veo-class) to generate clips, B-roll and transitions when a shoot isn't fast enough or isn't possible
  • Build AI into the daily workflow as a throughput and coverage tool, and keep the output on-brand (the bar is whether it holds, not whether it's novel)
  • Stay current as the tooling shifts, and bring the rest of the pod along

Throughput and team

  • Hold daily turnaround against the editorial calendar without dropping the quality bar
  • Mentor the video editor: set the templates, review first-pass work, lift the craft floor
  • Work with the strategy fork so formats are briefed and captured well upstream, rather than rescued in the edit
  • Work with distribution so cuts are built for the platform they're going to, not resized after the fact

Qualifications

  • Editing short-form, with a reel that sets a house style rather than showing clean cuts with a few years of real command of AI video tools
  • A creator's instinct for why a video holds attention past the first three seconds
  • Fluent in current Instagram and YouTube short-form styles and how they are changing
  • Fast and calm under a daily load; reliable when the calendar is full
  • Sound design and pacing sense; motion basics a plus
  • Can mentor a junior editor without becoming a bottleneck
