Job Description

Vice President – AI Products & Engineering

Location: Bengaluru

Work arrangement: Full-time, office-based role on all working days

Reporting to: Executive Director

Team size: Approximately 70 employees

Industry: US Healthcare Technology and Services

About the Role

ScribeEMR India Pvt. Ltd. is seeking a senior, hands-on technology leader to head its software products and engineering function.

The Vice President – AI Products & Engineering will be responsible for the strategy, architecture, development and successful deployment of AI-enabled products across medical scribing, medical coding, Revenue Cycle Management (RCM), virtual medical office solutions (VMOS), call center agents, and related healthcare workflows.

This is not a purely administrative or people-management position. The selected candidate must have the technical depth to guide product architecture, evaluate AI approaches, review critical technical decisions and convert AI capabilities into reliable products that deliver measurable improvements in productivity, accuracy and customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

AI Product Strategy and Delivery

  • Own the technology and engineering roadmap for ScribeRyte Instant, ScribeRyte Plus and future AI products.
  • Lead the development of AI solutions for medical scribing, medical coding, RCM, VMOS, voice agents, and internal products.
  • Translate business and operational challenges into scalable product solutions.
  • Ensure that every product has clearly defined users, business outcomes, quality standards and measurable productivity benefits.
  • Take products from concept and architecture through development, validation, deployment and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with operational teams, healthcare domain experts, US stakeholders and customers.

ScribeRyte Product Improvement

  • Improve the accuracy, reliability and usability of ScribeRyte Instant and ScribeRyte Plus.
  • Implement phrase-level or section-level confidence scoring so that scribes can focus on content requiring human review.
  • Develop capabilities such as audio-text alignment, low-confidence highlighting, missing-information detection and clinical-risk alerts.
  • Reduce the need for scribes to listen to the complete audio while maintaining documentation quality and patient safety.
  • Establish a measurable pathway for scribes to support multiple healthcare providers.
  • Create feedback mechanisms through which corrections made by scribes and quality teams improve future AI performance.

AI and Software Architecture

  • Define and govern the architecture of each product and the overall technology platform.
  • Create reusable capabilities for AI models, workflow management, integrations, audit trails, analytics and monitoring.
  • Guide teams on the appropriate use of commercial models, open-source models and internally developed models.
  • Establish standards for model evaluation, versioning, deployment, monitoring and rollback.
  • Ensure that products are secure, scalable, maintainable and capable of supporting multiple customers, specialties and EHR workflows.
  • Control technical debt and prevent the development of disconnected products with duplicated capabilities.

AI/ML Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership across speech recognition, clinical NLP, machine learning, large language models and generative AI.
  • Guide teams in prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, model fine-tuning and structured clinical output generation.
  • Establish methods for confidence scoring, uncertainty estimation, hallucination detection and clinical-risk identification.
  • Implement appropriate MLOps and LLMOps practices.
  • Build rigorous evaluation frameworks using representative healthcare data and clinically meaningful quality measures.
  • Design human-in-the-loop workflows that reduce manual effort without compromising accuracy or compliance.

Medical Coding, RCM and VMOS

  • Lead the development of AI-assisted solutions for medical coding, including code recommendations, supporting-evidence identification and compliance-risk alerts.
  • Develop automation and decision-support tools for RCM workflows such as eligibility, prior authorization, claim processing, denial management and follow-up prioritization.
  • Develop AI-enabled workflow solutions for VMOS and related operational functions.
  • Ensure appropriate integration with EHRs, practice-management systems, clearinghouses and other healthcare platforms.

Organization and Engineering Leadership

  • Lead and develop an approximately 70-member software products and engineering team.
  • Review and redesign the organization structure with clear roles, manageable spans of control and defined accountability.
  • Develop strong second-line leaders across product management, architecture, AI/ML, engineering, QA, DevOps and integrations.
  • Organize teams around products or platforms with end-to-end ownership.
  • Assess existing capabilities and implement appropriate hiring, development, redeployment and succession plans.
  • Establish a culture of ownership, technical excellence, documentation and measurable delivery.
  • Remain sufficiently hands-on to review designs and guide teams through complex technical decisions.

Quality, Security and Governance

  • Establish disciplined product-development, architecture-review, testing and release-governance processes.
  • Define measurable acceptance criteria for accuracy, reliability, productivity and user adoption.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and applicable healthcare privacy and security requirements.
  • Work closely with the CISO and IT Infrastructure teams on security architecture, PHI protection, access controls, audit trails and third-party AI services.
  • Provide transparent reporting to leadership on progress, risks, product quality and business outcomes.

Experience Required

  • 15 or more years of experience in software product development and engineering.
  • At least 5 years in a senior engineering, AI or product-technology leadership position.
  • Experience leading a software product and engineering organization of approximately 50–100 or more employees.
  • Proven experience building and deploying AI/ML or generative-AI products in production.
  • Experience taking a significant AI product from problem identification through architecture, deployment and business adoption.
  • Strong experience in one or more of the following: speech AI, NLP, large language models, workflow automation or decision-support systems.
  • Experience in US healthcare technology, medical scribing, medical coding, RCM or EHR systems is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience improving an engineering organization, building second-line leadership and establishing accountability.
  • Experience working with senior executives, customers and geographically distributed stakeholders.

Essential Technical Skills

The candidate should have strong working knowledge of:

  • Generative AI and large language models.
  • Speech recognition and audio-processing workflows.
  • Machine learning, NLP and clinical NLP.
  • Prompt engineering, RAG and model fine-tuning.
  • Confidence scoring, uncertainty estimation and model calibration.
  • AI evaluation, hallucination detection and human-in-the-loop design.
  • MLOps and LLMOps.
  • Cloud architecture, APIs, data pipelines and scalable software platforms.
  • DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing and production observability.
  • Healthcare data security, HIPAA and EHR integrations.

The candidate need not be the principal developer but must be technically capable of reviewing architecture, evaluating proposals and guiding senior engineers and architects.

Key Performance Expectations

The successful candidate will be accountable for:

  • Improving the accuracy and reliability of ScribeRyte products.
  • Implementing and validating confidence-based targeted review.
  • Reducing the percentage of audio requiring complete human review.
  • Increasing the number of providers effectively supported by each scribe.
  • Delivering agreed AI-product roadmaps for scribing, coding, RCM and VMOS.
  • Improving product adoption, release predictability and engineering quality.
  • Establishing a scalable product architecture and effective organization structure.
  • Building capable second-line leadership with manageable spans of control.
  • Demonstrating measurable productivity and financial returns from technology investments.

Initial Priorities

  • Assess the existing products, architecture, AI models, data, team capabilities and delivery processes.
  • Prepare and execute a corrective roadmap for ScribeRyte Instant and ScribeRyte Plus.
