Job Title: US Sales & Use Tax Accountant

Job Summary
We are looking for a highly motivated US Sales & Use Tax Accountant with 4–6 years of experience in U.S. indirect tax compliance. The ideal candidate should possess strong expertise in multi-state Sales & Use Tax compliance, tax return preparation, reconciliation, audit support, and tax reporting.
The role requires hands-on experience with Vertex, Alteryx, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. The successful candidate will work closely with Finance, Accounting, Tax Technology, and Business teams to ensure timely tax compliance, support audits, improve processes through automation, and maintain adherence to U.S. state and local tax regulations.
Key Responsibilities
US Sales & Use Tax Compliance
- Prepare, review, and file multi-state U.S. Sales & Use Tax returns accurately and within deadlines.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual indirect tax compliance across multiple U.S. jurisdictions.
- Reconcile tax liabilities with General Ledger balances and supporting documentation.
- Manage exemption certificates and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Monitor changes in U.S. Sales & Use Tax legislation and evaluate business impacts.
- Maintain audit-ready tax documentation, workpapers, and compliance records.
Tax Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze transaction-level tax data to ensure accurate tax determination.
- Identify tax calculation discrepancies and collaborate with stakeholders to resolve issues.
- Perform tax account reconciliations and prepare compliance reports.
- Assist with indirect tax accruals and financial reporting activities.
Audit & Notice Management
- Support state and local tax audits by preparing documentation and responding to auditor requests.
- Research and resolve tax notices received from taxing authorities.
- Implement corrective actions and process improvements arising from audit observations.
Technology & Process Improvement
- Utilize Vertex for tax determination, compliance, and reporting.
- Leverage Alteryx to automate workflows, validate data, and improve reporting efficiency.
- Identify automation opportunities to streamline tax compliance processes.
- Collaborate with Finance, IT, and Tax Technology teams to enhance tax systems and reporting capabilities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Finance, Accounting, Operations, and Business teams on tax compliance matters.
- Provide guidance on Sales & Use Tax treatment for business transactions.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding tax-related issues.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related discipline.
- 4–6 years of hands-on experience in U.S. Sales & Use Tax compliance.
- Strong understanding of multi-state U.S. Sales & Use Tax regulations.
- Hands-on experience with Vertex Tax Software.
- Experience using Alteryx for automation, analytics, and reporting.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including:
- Pivot Tables
- VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
- Power Query
- Advanced data analysis
- Experience supporting tax audits and handling tax notices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a multinational organization, shared services environment, or global tax function.
- Exposure to tax automation and analytics tools.
- Working knowledge of Python and SQL for tax reporting, automation, and data analysis.
- Experience driving process improvement initiatives.
