Job Description

Teaching Duties:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging and informative English lessons that meet the curriculum requirements.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles and abilities.
  • Assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and attainment of students.
  • Set and mark assignments and tests, providing constructive feedback to students.
Pastoral Care:
  • Act as a mentor and guide for students, helping them navigate academic and personal challenges.
  • Monitor and support the overall well-being of students in the residential setting.
  • Foster a safe and positive living and learning environment for all students.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and well-being.
Curriculum Development:
  • Collaborate with other English department staff to develop and refine the English curriculum.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes and developments in the teaching of English.
Extracurricular Involvement:
  • Participate in and sometimes lead extracurricular activities related to English, such as reading clubs, writing workshops, or school publications.
  • Engage in school events and cultural activities.
Professional Development:
  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance teaching practice.
  • Attend and contribute to departmental and school-wide meetings.
Administrative Duties:
  • Maintain accurate student records and perform other administrative tasks as required.
  • Adhere to school policies and procedures, including those related to safeguarding and child protection.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • A Master's degree in English, Education, or a related field.
  • A teaching qualification (e.g. B.Ed.) relevant to secondary education.
  • Experience in teaching English at the secondary level is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the English curriculum and pedagogical approaches.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Commitment to the holistic development of students.
Additional Requirements:
Willingness to reside on campus as part of the residential nature of the school.
Flexibility to participate in evening and weekend activities as required.
