Iseries AS/400 Engineer
Purpose:
To ensure the stability, performance, and scalability of IBM iSeries (AS/400) systems through proactive system administration and modernization efforts. This role supports enterprise operations and contributes to strategic initiatives such as cloud migration and infrastructure optimization.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Administration & Maintenance
- Manage day-to-day operations of IBM iSeries environments, including job scheduling, system backups, spool file management, and performance tuning.
- Perform OS upgrades, patching, and configuration changes with minimal disruption to business processes.
- Infrastructure Modernization
- Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to support the transition of legacy workloads to cloud or hybrid environments.
- Participate in planning and execution of cloud migration strategies, ensuring compatibility and continuity of iSeries-hosted applications.
- Performance Monitoring & Optimization
- Monitor system health and resource utilization, identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements.
- Conduct capacity planning and assist with hardware refresh cycles.
- Documentation & Change Management
- Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, and change logs.
- Follow established change control processes to ensure traceability and compliance with IT standards.
- Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to support business applications running on iSeries.
- Provide technical guidance and support to internal stakeholders without being part of an on-call rotation.
Your Skills & Experience:
- Education & Certification
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- IBM Certified System Administrator IBM i (preferred).
- Technical Expertise
- Strong experience with IBM iSeries OS/400, including job control, system utilities, and performance tuning.
- Familiarity with DB2/SQL on IBM i and RPG (ILE RPG, RPG Free Format, CLLE, SQL RPGLE).
- Understanding of cloud migration principles and hybrid infrastructure models.
