About The Role
Our UK based contractor client are seeking an experienced
Substation Civil Design Engineer to join the Bengaluru-based engineering team supporting
UK power transmission and distribution projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering civil and structural design packages for
high-voltage substations (up to 400kV) in accordance with UK design standards and client specifications.
This role requires prior experience working on
UK substation projects, with a solid understanding of relevant
British Standards (BS), EN codes, and
UK DNO/TSO design practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver civil and structural design packages for AIS and GIS substations, including foundations, buildings, cable trenches, and equipment support structures.
- Prepare design calculations, drawings, and reports in compliance with UK standards, project specifications, and client requirements.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including electrical, protection, and structural engineers to ensure integrated design solutions.
- Review and check design deliverables produced by internal teams or sub-consultants.
- Liaise with UK-based design leads and clients to ensure technical alignment and timely delivery.
- Conduct design risk assessments and apply CDM (Construction Design and Management) regulations where applicable.
- Support the preparation of Bill of Quantities (BoQ), technical specifications, and tender documentation.
- Ensure designs meet health, safety, and environmental requirements in line with UK and company standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering (Master's preferred).
- Upwards of 5 years of experience in civil/structural design, with at least 2 years on UK substation or transmission/distribution projects.
- Strong knowledge of UK design standards such as BS EN 1992 (Concrete), BS EN 1993 (Steel), BS EN 1997 (Geotechnical), and DNO design guidelines.
- Experience using design and analysis software such as STAAD.Pro, Tekla, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit.
- Familiarity with CDM Regulations and UK construction practices.
- Strong communication and coordination skills for working with UK-based clients and project teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with BIM and digital design tools for substation design.
- Previous experience working with UK DNO's
- Understanding of UK environmental and planning requirements related to substation civil works.
