Staff Software Engineer

As a Staff Engineer – Backend, you will play a critical role in designing and building systems that can scale 10x–100x, while remaining deeply hands-on. You will drive technical excellence, influence architecture decisions, and partner closely with product and engineering teams to deliver scalable, reliable systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend systems to support rapid growth

• Own key components/services end-to-end — from design to production

• Contribute to system design discussions and architecture decisions

• Identify performance bottlenecks and drive scalable solutions

• Collaborate with senior engineers to define technical direction

• Write high-quality, maintainable, and production-grade code

• Conduct code reviews and uphold engineering best practices

• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through hands-on guidance

• Work closely with product managers to translate business needs into technical solutions

• Collaborate across teams to solve cross-cutting technical problems

• Drive improvements in system reliability, observability, and performance

• Take ownership of projects — ensuring timely and high-quality delivery

Requirements

• 8–10 years of experience in backend or platform engineering

• Strong computer science fundamentals

• Proficiency in backend technologies (Node.js, Java, Go, or similar)

• Experience building and scaling distributed systems in a high-growth environment

• Hands-on experience with high-traffic or transactional systems (fintech experience is a plus)

• Strong problem-solving skills with a practical and execution-focused mindset

• Experience with microservices architecture and API design

• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and infrastructure fundamentals

• Familiarity with system design principles (scalability, fault tolerance, caching, etc.)

• Ability to navigate ambiguity and work in fast-paced environments

Good to Have

• Experience with lending/fintech ecosystems

• Exposure to platform engineering (developer tooling, shared services, internal platforms)

• Understanding of observability, monitoring, and debugging large-scale systems

• Experience contributing to architecture evolution
