Staff Software Engineer Role Overview Join a high-performing engineering community focused on building simple, scalable cloud solutions. We are looking for a seasoned engineer to join a dedicated team focused on Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) products. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager of the DBaaS team within the Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) engineering organization, this role provides technical leadership to scale our database platform for a growing customer base. The team builds and runs the services and infrastructure for our DBaaS products—handling the full lifecycle of managed databases, from APIs that let users create and manage databases to software that automates running, upgrading, and health monitoring. What You'll Do Develop and enhance customer-facing Managed Database (DBaaS) products. Design and build scalable, resilient backend services. Own end-to-end technical solutions from architecture to production. Provide technical leadership across multiple engineering projects. Mentor and guide engineers through code reviews and technical discussions. Improve system design, scalability, reliability, availability, and performance. Build and maintain globally distributed systems on Kubernetes. Author and review technical design documents. Develop backend services and APIs using Go (Golang). Perform code reviews and drive engineering best practices. Provide last-line production support for DBaaS products. Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Design, and Operations teams. Work with cloud-native technologies including Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka, Temporal, Grafana, REST, and gRPC. Integrate DBaaS services across the cloud platform. What You'll Bring Deep expertise in MySQL administration, performance tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting. Experience building and operating Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) platforms. Strong knowledge of database lifecycle management. Experience developing high-performance backend systems. Expertise in RESTful API and gRPC service development. Strong understanding of distributed systems and cloud-native architectures. Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Kafka, OpenSearch, and caching technologies. Technical ownership and architectural decision-making experience. Experience influencing engineering standards and operational excellence. Strong focus on reliability engineering, observability, and code quality. Experience ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and rapid incident resolution. Strong mentoring and technical coaching skills. Experience collaborating effectively in agile, cross-functional teams. Ability to build scalable, reliable, and maintainable cloud platform services.
