We are looking for a creative and skilled Backend Engineer to own
the API Federation layer of our platform. This role is focused on creating the
single, unified API that our customers will use to orchestrate their entire
multi-cloud network. You will be the architect of our developer experience,
responsible for abstracting the immense power and complexity of our underlying
services from cloud-native APIs to software-defined interconnects into an
elegant and intuitive interface. Your mission is to build a federated API
that is powerful for advanced users yet simple enough to delight
developers.
Responsibilities
Federated Schema Development: Design, build, and maintain a federated GraphQL
schema that composes multiple underlying microservices into a single, unified
data graph for our customers.
API Gateway Management: Implement and manage our API Gateway infrastructure
(e.g., Kong, Tyk), ensuring it is scalable, secure, and highly available. You
will configure routing, enforce security policies, and monitor
performance.
Abstraction and Orchestration: Develop backend services in Go, Java and Node.js
that act as an orchestration layer, translating simple API calls into complex
workflows that interact with diverse downstream systems.
API Design and Documentation: Create and maintain world-class, public-facing
API documentation. Champion API design best practices across the engineering
organization to ensure consistency and ease of use.
Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with control plane and infrastructure
teams to understand the capabilities and constraints of underlying services,
ensuring seamless integration into the federated API layer.
Required Qualifications
3+ years of experience in backend software engineering, with a strong focus on
API development and integration.
Proficiency in Spring boot and Java to maintain MCN middleware
Proficiency in Go, Java, and Node.js.
Hands-on experience building, deploying, and managing API Gateways such as Kong
or Tyk.
Deep understanding of GraphQL, including schema design, resolvers, and
federation concepts (e.g., Apollo Federation).
Proven experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs.
Solid understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems
principles.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience building developer-facing products and a passion for creating an
exceptional developer experience.
Familiarity with multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their native
API patterns.
Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and
Kubernetes.
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices.
A conceptual understanding of networking and cloud infrastructure.
