Position Overview
The Senior GIS Analyst serves as a technical and business leader responsible for bridging organizational objectives with GIS technology solutions. This role combines advanced geospatial expertise, business analysis, data governance, and solution delivery to support enterprise IT, Engineering, Operations, and Product initiatives.
The Senior GIS Analyst will lead complex GIS projects, drive process improvements, mentor team members, collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, and deliver scalable geospatial solutions that improve operational efficiency and decision-making across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
GIS Strategy & Solution Delivery
- Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of enterprise GIS solutions using the Esri platform.
- Architect scalable geospatial workflows, applications, dashboards, and integrations to support business operations.
- Evaluate emerging GIS technologies and recommend innovative solutions to improve organizational capabilities.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, IT, and Product teams to define and execute GIS roadmaps.
Business Analysis & Process Improvement
- Partner with stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document business requirements as epics, features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Facilitate workshops and discovery sessions to identify business needs and process improvement opportunities.
- Develop process maps, workflow diagrams, business cases, and functional requirements documentation.
- Translate business objectives into actionable GIS and technology solutions.
Data Management & Analytics
- Oversee spatial data governance, quality assurance, and lifecycle management.
- Develop and maintain geospatial datasets, data models, and standards to ensure data integrity and consistency.
- Perform advanced spatial analysis to identify trends, anomalies, risks, and opportunities.
- Create executive-level dashboards, reports, and visualizations that support data-driven decision-making.
Automation & Innovation
- Lead the development of GIS automation solutions using Python, Arcade, ModelBuilder, and related technologies.
- Design and implement integrations between GIS platforms and enterprise business systems.
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows through automation and process optimization.
- Support cloud-based GIS deployments and enterprise architecture initiatives.
Leadership & Support
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for GIS technologies and geospatial best practices.
- Mentor junior GIS analysts and provide technical guidance across project teams.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex GIS issues and provide Tier 2 & Tier 3 support.
- Develop training materials and conduct knowledge-sharing sessions for end users and technical teams.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills; ability to multitask.
- ESRI Suite Knowledge is a must.
- Experience with business requirements artifacts (epics, features, stories) and process documentation.
- Proficiency in ArcGIS/QGIS; knowledge of GIS data conversion tools.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Ability to prioritize, work independently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Engineering, Urban Planning, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of one year of GIS software experience (ArcGIS Desktop/Pro).
- Experience in GIS mapping, data management, and exposure to business or product analysis.
