Job Profile Summary
Perform database engineering and administration activities including design, planning, configuration, monitoring, automation, self- serviceability, alerting, and space management, database backup and recovery. Plan computerized databases, including base definition, structure, documentation, long- range requirements, operational guidelines and protection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Database Installation and Configuration: Configuring SQL Server software on servers post Installation and ensuring proper configuration settings for optimal performance and security.
  • Database Maintenance: Performing regular backups, restoration, and recovery of databases to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime in case of failures.
  • Database Monitoring and Performance Tuning: Monitoring the performance of databases, identifying and resolving performance issues, optimizing queries, and fine-tuning server configurations to ensure efficient and smooth operation.
  • Security and Access Management: Implementing security measures such as user authentication, authorization, and auditing to protect sensitive data. Managing user access, roles, and permissions within the database.
  • Database Troubleshooting: Investigating and resolving database-related issues, such as connectivity problems, data corruption, and performance bottlenecks. Applying patches and fixes to address bugs and vulnerabilities.
  • Database Documentation: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation of database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides to ensure easy reference for future tasks and knowledge sharing.
  • Database Capacity Planning: Monitoring database growth and resource utilization to anticipate and plan for future storage requirements and performance enhancements. Making recommendations for hardware upgrades or additional resources as needed.
  • Disaster Recovery Planning: Developing and implementing disaster recovery strategies and procedures to ensure business continuity in case of system failures or disasters. Testing and validating backup and recovery processes regularly.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborating with application developers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to understand and address their database requirements and concerns. Communicating effectively to provide timely updates and resolutions.
  • Continuous Learning: Keeping up-to-date with the latest SQL Server features, best practices, and industry trends. Participating in training programs, attending conferences, and exploring relevant resources to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • Participate in 24X7 production support for SQL Server infrastructure along with senior members of the other database services teams
  • Remember that specific responsibilities may vary depending on the organization, its size, and the complexity of the SQL Server environment you're working with. Additionally, as a Level 1 DBA, you may also be responsible for assisting Level 2 or senior DBAs with more complex tasks and projects.
