About Thermo Fisher Scientific

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, you'll do work that truly matters. You'll be part of a collaborative team that enables our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. Together, we push the boundaries of innovation to empower scientists and researchers worldwide through powerful instruments, software, and digital technologies.

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and diligent Software Test Engineer to support the testing and validation of software applications coordinated with Thermo Fisher Scientific's flow cytometry (including spectral flow cytometry) and microscopy instruments.

This role connects biology with software validation, providing an exciting opportunity for professionals with strong biological backgrounds who are eager to apply their scientific knowledge to confirm software quality and reliability. The ideal candidate will develop and complete biological experiments that mimic real-world customer workflows, ensuring the software works accurately, is user-friendly, and scientifically relevant.

Candidates who have worked with cell culture, immunoassays (Flow Cytometry, IHC, ICC), and possess knowledge of software testing tools and SDLC processes will thrive in this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, complete, and document software validation tests for flow cytometry and microscopy software coordinated with Thermo Fisher instruments.
  • Conduct cell culture and cell-based immunoassays (Flow Cytometry, Immunohistochemistry, Immunocytochemistry) to confirm new features and maintain scientific accuracy.
  • Develop and complete biological test cases that reflect customer workflows and application needs.
  • Apply knowledge of fluorescence compensation, spectral unmixing, and spectral panel development in flow cytometry testing and validation.
  • Participate in the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) - including test planning, case creation, execution, and regression testing.
  • Use JIRA and related tools for defect tracking, test management, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Developers, and Domain Testers to ensure comprehensive and timely validation coverage.
  • Troubleshoot both biological and instrument-based test issues and contribute to problem resolution.
  • Ensure full compliance with data integrity, documentation, and audit standards in all validation activities.
  • Contribute to process improvements and automation initiatives within the validation workflow.
  • Work collaboratively across global, cross-functional teams, demonstrating adaptability and strong communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in Immunology, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, or a related Life Science field.
  • 3-5 years of direct experience in cell culture and cell-based immunoassays including Flow Cytometry, Immunohistochemistry (IHC), and Immunocytochemistry (ICC) - this experience is mandatory.
  • Foundational understanding of software testing principles, test case documentation, and the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Experience with JIRA or similar issue tracking and test management tools.
  • Solid understanding of fluorescence compensation, spectral unmixing, and data interpretation in flow cytometry.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot biological and instrumentation issues.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and documentation skills.
  • Strong passion for engaging at the crossroads of biology and software testing, applying scientific expertise to guarantee product quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in validation or software testing for life science instrumentation or analytical software products.
  • Familiarity with competitor flow cytometry systems (BD, Cytek, Beckman Coulter, etc.).
  • Exposure to regulated testing environments (ISO, FDA, or GLP) and quality documentation processes.
  • Experience working in Agile or hybrid software development settings.
  • Interest in using Enterprise ChatGPT or similar AI tools for test automation, report generation, and data analysis tasks.
  • Desire to learn and implement technology-enhanced efficiency solutions within software validation workflows.
