Senior STP Design Engineer
Reports to: Senior Project Manager
Location: Hyderabad (with site travel and stay as per project requirements)
Experience: 4–8 years in STP design & execution
Employment Type: Full-time
Role Summary
We are seeking a Senior STP Design Engineer to serve as the technical design authority for our Sewage Treatment Plant projects — from tender-stage costing and process design through to commissioning and Performance Guarantee (PG) testing. You will own the engineering design, coordinate customer approvals at the working/technical level, and guide a Site Engineer who reports to you. You will report to the Senior Project Manager, who leads overall project planning, senior customer coordination, and civil construction guidance.
Key ResponsibilitiesEstimation & Pre-Bid
- Read and interpret tender documents and prepare cost estimation for STPs, covering civil and pipeline estimation independently. (Electro-mechanical items such as pumps and agitators will be costed with support from the Purchase department.)
- Visit prospective sites for technical assessment and estimation prior to work order.
Process Design & Engineering
- Design STPs across technologies — MBBR, SBR, ASP, Constructed Wetlands, Waste Stabilization Ponds (WSP), etc. — appropriate to site conditions and tender requirements.
- Using survey and soil investigation data, prepare the Basic Engineering Package (BEP), Hydraulic/Process Flow Diagrams (HFD/PFD), layouts, General Arrangement Drawings (GAD), P&IDs, pipeline routing drawings, and procurement BOQ.
- Confirm that survey and soil reports are adequate and reliable for design use. (You are responsible for the design being based on sound site data.)
- Coordinate with the customer to secure working-level / technical design approvals. (Senior and commercial sign-off is routed through the Senior Project Manager.)
- Coordinate with the structural team to get structural drawings prepared and approved, with civil guidance from the Senior Project Manager.
Execution Oversight (through the Site Engineer)
- Provide design intent, drawings, and instructions to the Site Engineer, who supervises day-to-day execution.
- Adjudicate site deviations: when the Site Engineer escalates a deviation, assess its acceptability against the process/design intent and route it for customer sign-off through the Senior Project Manager.
- Remain accountable for on-site work conforming to the approved design.
Commissioning
- Lead commissioning, trial runs, and PG tests; hold technical accountability for their successful completion.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proficiency in AutoCAD — a practical tool test will be conducted during selection.
- Proven ability to independently design STPs across MBBR, SBR, ASP, wetlands, WSP, and similar technologies.
- 4–8 years of relevant experience, including design and delivery of at least two STP sites of 1 MLD or above.
- Strong command of process, civil, and pipeline engineering for wastewater treatment.
- Ability to interpret tender documents and produce accurate cost estimates and BOQs.
- (Suggested) B.E./B.Tech in Environmental / Chemical / Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to learn a 3D design software and apply it as and when required.
- Flexibility to stay at site as and when instructed, including during commissioning and PG tests.
