Behind every conversation is a distributed backend handling telephony, agent orchestration, analytics, billing, integrations, observability, and large-scale event processing.

Our engineering spans AWS, Azure, and GCP, and engineers regularly work across cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, AI infrastructure, and real-time communications.

We're still early enough that a single engineer can fundamentally shape the product, yet mature enough that engineering quality, reliability, and long-term ownership matter every day.

The Role

We're looking for backend engineers who enjoy owning problems rather than implementing tickets.

You won't spend your time waiting for perfectly written specifications. Instead, you'll take ambiguous product ideas, design practical solutions, ship them, monitor them in production, and continue improving them after launch.

Over time, you'll become the long-term owner of critical backend services and product areas.

What You'll Build

You'll work across areas such as:

• Core backend services powering authentication, multi-tenant APIs, permissions, billing, and customer-facing product surfaces
• AI agent orchestration and real-time voice infrastructure
• Customer integrations through REST APIs, gRPC services, and event-driven systems
• Analytics pipelines for usage, call quality, search, reporting, and product insights
• Shared platform infrastructure, including internal SDKs, queues, observability, deployment tooling, and cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP
  

What You'll Do

You'll be trusted to own significant engineering initiatives end-to-end.

That means you'll:

• Own multi-sprint backend initiatives from problem framing through design, implementation, rollout, and production ownership
• Take ambiguous product goals and turn them into clear engineering plans with thoughtful trade-offs
• Design backend services with well-defined APIs, clear ownership boundaries, scalability, resilience, and multi-tenant safety
• Ship production-ready software with robust logging, metrics, monitoring, testing, and operational documentation
• Investigate production incidents, perform root cause analysis, and ensure the same class of issue doesn't happen again
• Partner closely with founders, product, and design to shape solutions—not simply implement requirements
• Raise engineering standards through code reviews, technical design discussions, mentoring, and knowledge sharing
• Become the long-term technical owner of important backend systems
  

What We're Looking ForMust Have

• Around 5–8 years of experience building production backend systems (we care more about ownership than years of experience)
• Demonstrated ownership of significant backend projects from design through production
• Strong proficiency in Python, Node.js, or Go
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and backend architecture
• Experience designing APIs, data models, concurrency, retries, idempotency, and failure recovery
• Experience working with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, and message queues
• Experience building and consuming REST and gRPC services
• A production mindset—comfortable debugging live systems, improving reliability, and operating software after deployment
• Ability to independently navigate ambiguity and make sound engineering decisions

Nice to Have

Experience with any of the following is a strong plus:

• Real-time systems, WebRTC, LiveKit, telephony, SIP, or streaming infrastructure
• Production AI or LLM-based systems, including agent orchestration, tool calling, evaluation pipelines, or prompt engineering
• Experience building and operating production systems on AWS, Azure, and GCP
• Container orchestration, serverless architectures, messaging systems, and infrastructure-as-code
• High-volume event processing, analytics pipelines, or search infrastructure
• Early-stage startup experience where you've built products from scratch
