Our client is an established commodities trading platform seeking a senior risk professional to lead and enhance its risk management framework while partnering closely with key business stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Provided independent second-line risk oversight across commodity trading activities, covering market risk, counterparty credit risk, concentration risk, liquidity risk, operational risk, and enterprise risk exposures.
- Developed, implemented, and continuously enhanced risk management frameworks, governance policies, risk appetite statements, control standards, and reporting processes to support effective risk oversight and regulatory compliance.
- Monitored trading portfolios and risk exposures across physical and paper commodities, ensuring compliance with approved risk limits, delegated authorities, and internal governance requirements.
- Performed market risk analysis, stress testing, scenario analysis, sensitivity analysis, and risk assessments to evaluate portfolio exposures and support strategic business and trading decisions.
- Reviewed and challenged new trading strategies, structured transactions, and commercial initiatives by providing independent risk assessments and recommendations prior to execution.
- Partnered closely with Trading, Commercial, Operations, Finance, Treasury, Compliance, Legal, and senior management teams to strengthen enterprise-wide risk governance while balancing commercial objectives with prudent risk management.
- Prepared and presented regular risk reports, portfolio analytics, key risk indicators (KRIs), limit utilisation, and emerging risk assessments to senior management, executive committees, and risk governance forums.
- Investigated limit breaches, trading exceptions, operational incidents, and risk events, recommending corrective actions and process improvements to strengthen the control environment.
- Led the ongoing enhancement of risk methodologies, reporting tools, systems, and data governance initiatives to improve risk transparency, operational efficiency, and decision-making capabilities.
- Monitored market developments, geopolitical events, regulatory changes, and macroeconomic trends impacting commodity markets, translating complex risk implications into practical recommendations for business stakeholders.
- Coordinated with internal audit, external auditors, regulators, and external stakeholders on risk governance, policy compliance, control reviews, and remediation initiatives where required.
- Supported the development of a strong risk culture by providing guidance, training, and subject matter expertise to business stakeholders on risk management principles, governance requirements, and internal control best practices.
Requirements:
- Minimum 10+ years experience in commodity trading risk management.
- Strong exposure to commodities and derivatives markets.
- Experience developing and implementing risk frameworks, policies and controls.
- Understanding of market risk methodologies and risk reporting.
- Ability to operate independently and challenge risk-taking activities when required.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
