Role Overview
SGM – Enterprise Architect is responsible for defining and governing the organization's technology architecture across applications, data, infrastructure, and integration layers. The role ensures platform scalability, system interoperability, cloud optimization, and future-readiness of the tech stack, while aligning architecture with evolving business models and digital strategy.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technology Architecture Strategy
- Define the enterprise architecture blueprint across core systems, channels, and platforms.
- Align architecture principles with business strategy, scalability goals, and operational models.
- Build the roadmap for modernization of legacy systems and adoption of microservices, APIs, and cloud-native solutions.
- Ensure architecture supports omnichannel, data democratization, and customer experience priorities.
- Continuously evaluate tech trends and assess their relevance for the enterprise.
- Drive platform modernization roadmaps: cloud migration, technical debt elimination, and legacy rationalization.
2. Application & System Design Governance
- Define and govern standards for integration patterns, API design, cloud infrastructure, and data architecture
- Set standards for system design, application modularity, and technology selection across platforms.
- Review architectural decisions across engineering and product teams for scalability and compliance.
- Govern architecture across key platforms including POS, ERP, E-Commerce, CRM, and Customer Service Tech.
- Drive architectural consistency across mobile, web, store, and backend systems.
- Ensure modularity, reusability, and adherence to best practices in tech implementation.
3. Cloud, Integration & Infrastructure Architecture
- Lead architecture design for cloud migration, hybrid deployments, and containerized workloads.
- Define frameworks for API management, middleware integration, and secure data exchange.
- Partner with Infrastructure and Security teams to align architecture with reliability and risk frameworks.
- Optimize architecture for cost, performance, and future flexibility.
- Ensure network, CDN, and hosting frameworks meet business availability SLAs.
- Conduct architecture reviews for all major initiatives; approve technical designs and enforce target-state alignment
- Evaluate and recommend technology platforms across Commerce, OMS, WMS, SAP, CRM, Integration, and AI
4. Architecture Reviews, Documentation & Governance
- Own the enterprise technology architecture blueprint: target-state architecture and architecture decision records
- Conduct periodic architecture reviews with platform and engineering teams.
- Maintain architecture repository, design documentation, and tech standards registry.
- Define architecture KPIs and drive visibility through dashboards and review forums.
- Review technology proposals from vendors and evaluate alignment with internal architecture goals.
- Guide solutioning for high-impact programs and platform-level transformations.
5. Team Leadership & Capability Building
- Lead a team of enterprise and solution architects across technology domains.
- Build team capability in architecture design, documentation, and governance processes.
- Partner with Engineering and Product teams to mentor squads on scalable architecture choices.
- Define and drive adoption of architecture maturity models.
- Cultivate a culture of design-first thinking, architectural rigour, and innovation.
- Mentor domain technical leads; build a culture of architecture-first thinking across the engineering organization.
