Job Description

Role Overview

We are seeking accomplished Robotics Professionals with 3-6 years of corporate industry experience (in industrial automation, service robotics, or advanced manufacturing) to join our mission as an Industry Mentor. This critical role guides student cohorts through live, industry-standard robotics and automation solution development projects. You will coach students across the entire robotics stackfrom kinematics and controls to software integration and deploymentensuring they adhere to the workplace way of working using Agile methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

You will operate within TrooperCruit's Agile framework system in the Campus as a Workplace model, focusing on the practical, end-to-end design, development, and deployment of functional robotic systems.

1. Technical Mentorship & Guidance

  • Project Supervision: Supervise 12-member student cohorts on real-time Robotics R&D problem statements provided by corporate partners (e.g., automated inspection systems, mobile robot navigation, robotic manipulation tasks).
  • End-to-End Coaching: Guide student teams through the full Robotics product lifecycle, covering the critical technical dimensions:
  • Robot Operating System (ROS): Practical application and advanced usage of ROS/ROS 2 for system integration, communication, and package development.
  • Control Systems: Implementation of kinematics, path planning (e.g., MoveIt), and motion control algorithms.
  • Sensing & Perception: Integration of sensors (LiDAR, Cameras, Force/Torque) and application of Computer Vision for object detection and environment mapping.
  • Programming: Proficiency in C++ and Python for developing robot control software and high-level task planning.
  • System Architecture: Coach students on designing modular and scalable robotics software architectures, emphasizing safety, reliability, and deployment procedures.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct rigorous code reviews, perform hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation testing, and guide system calibration to ensure industrial precision and reliability.

2. Integrated Learning & Agile Culture

  • Agile Development: Work closely with the Junior Scrum Master to embed the Agile demands of the industrial world, ensuring that complex, multi-disciplinary robotics tasks (hardware, software, electrical) are effectively planned and executed within Sprint cycles.
  • Professional Competency: Guide students on the non-technical but critical aspects of corporate work, including:
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Managing the interface and communication between mechanical, electrical, and software team members.
  • Risk Management: Coaching on identifying and mitigating physical and software safety risks inherent in robotics projects.
  • Documentation: Emphasizing the necessity of precise design specifications, interface control documents, and safety protocols.

3. Operational Oversight & Stakeholder Reporting

  • Curriculum Feedback: Provide continuous feedback to TrooperCruit on the effectiveness of the Integrated Workplace Learning Model and suggest adjustments to keep the curriculum aligned with advancements in AI in Robotics, collaborative robots (Cobots), and industrial standards.
  • Reporting: Communicate project status, technical challenges, and student performance metrics to TrooperCruit and corporate stakeholders.
  • Batch Supervision: For Full-Time Mentors, take ownership of the overall performance and professional development of assigned student batches.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience:3 to 6 years of hands-on, professional experience as a Robotics Engineer, Automation Engineer, or Controls Engineer in a corporate setting.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong background in C++ and Python. Practical experience with ROS/ROS 2 and simulation environments (e.g., Gazebo).
  • Domain Expertise: Familiarity with industrial robotic systems (e.g., articulated arms, AGVs/AMRs) or service robotics. Knowledge of version control (Git) is essential.
  • Process Knowledge: Practical experience working in an Agile (Scrum/Kanban) development environment where software and hardware lifecycles intersect.
  • Coaching Aptitude: Proven ability or strong desire to teach, mentor, and simplify complex mechatronics concepts for early-career professionals.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent debugging and systems integration skills, strong focus on safety, and the ability to inspire a disciplined approach to complex systems design.
  • Education: B.Tech/M.Tech/M.S. in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.

Why Partner with TrooperCruit

  • Part-Time Flexibility: Maintain your corporate career while making a significant, tangible impact on the next generation of automation specialists.
  • Impact: Directly contribute to solving the persistent disconnect by training students to build integrated, safe, and production-ready robotic solutions.
