Officer Raw Material Testing (RM Chemist)

Department:

Quality Control (QC) / Quality Assurance (QA)

Reporting To:

Executive / Sr. Officer Quality Control

Job Purpose:

To ensure the quality and compliance of all incoming raw materials used in cosmetic product manufacturing by performing analytical and physical testing in accordance with regulatory standards, internal specifications, and SOPs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct sampling and testing of incoming raw materials (active ingredients, excipients, fragrances, oils, etc.) as per approved specifications and standard test procedures.
  • Perform physical, chemical, and instrumental analysis (e.g., pH, viscosity, specific gravity, FTIR, UV, etc.) of cosmetic raw materials.
  • Maintain proper documentation of all testing activities in logbooks, test reports, and LIMS (if applicable).
  • Ensure all raw materials are tested and released within defined timelines to avoid production delays.
  • Support in the qualification and requalification of raw material suppliers through quality data.
  • Assist in the preparation, revision, and implementation of raw material specifications and test procedures.
  • Handle laboratory equipment calibration and maintenance schedules relevant to raw material testing.
  • Comply with GMP, GLP, ISO, and regulatory guidelines relevant to the cosmetic industry.
  • Maintain proper hygiene, safety, and housekeeping in the lab area.
  • Coordinate with the purchase, warehouse, and production teams for raw material-related quality issues.

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of raw materials used in cosmetics and their regulatory standards (e.g., BIS, FDA, ISO 22716).
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory testing instruments and techniques.
  • Understanding of GMP and cosmetic regulatory compliance.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy in testing, and good documentation practices.
  • Basic computer literacy MS Office, LIMS (if applicable).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, or related field.

Experience:

  • 13 years of experience in raw material testing in the cosmetics, personal care, or pharmaceutical industry.

Working Conditions:

  • Lab-based role with occasional warehouse/raw material area visits.
  • Day shift with possible flexibility based on workload.
