Division Overview:

The Risk Management Division encompasses the firm's comprehensive risk framework responsible for determining and managing the overall risk appetite for the firm. The division is responsible for effectively managing the firm's risk-return profile which ensures the efficient deployment of the firm's capital. It is one of the firm's core competencies and is independent of the trading areas and operational areas.

Business Unit Overview:

The Risk Model and Regulatory Oversight (RMRO) team is part of the Global Risk Methodology Group (RMG) and responsible for supervising RMG's compliance with all relevant Risk Model policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. The RMRO team liaises globally with other functions within Nomura with departments across Risk Management, IT, GM, Finance, amongst other areas to provide a comprehensive picture of the risks Nomura faces.

Position Specifications:

Corporate Title: Associate

Functional Title: Associate

Experience: 5- 6 years

Qualification: Graduate or Post Graduate/MBA from a reputed institute

Role & Responsibilities:

This role is for an Associate level candidate to support the RMG COO/Head of RMRO in carrying out responsibilities to support RMG's Risk Model Governance and Control. The candidate will be tasked with taking the lead on several areas within the RMRO space.

Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Governance and Reporting:

  • Coordinate and produce materials for monthly senior management Committee, regulatory meetings, and newsletters
  • Provide status update to key RMG members and Global Risk Forum, including Policies & Procedures, RCSA Actions, Audit Actions and Head Counts list & Org chart
  • Assist with regulatory meeting and submission coordination, including compiling materials, tracking action, and taking notes
  • Maintain, update, and backup RMG Dashboard to ensure optimal performance and reliability
  • Operate strategic change management project initiatives within RMG
  • Coordinate internal training programme

Control and Monitoring:

  • Execute monthly/quarterly/annual control and monitoring processes owned by RMG, including BAU monitoring, RCSAs, Audit action, Model Changes, Policies & Procedures
  • Coordinate controls for EUCs maintained by RMG
  • Track regulatory deliverables and commitments

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Strong delivery skills: ability to see projects and tasks through to completion, overcoming potential obstacles and challenges to achieve objectives and goals
  • Ability to work well under pressure and balance multiple conflicting demands
  • Capacity to work with a high degree of accuracy, employing a logical and structured approach
  • Self-awareness to review own work, identify issues, and investigate or escalate appropriately

Mind Set:

  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in large-scale financial services institutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Proven ability to adapt to changing priorities and work environments
  • Strong understanding of Risk and Control activities
  • Willingness to work in UK time zone, occasionally accommodating flexible hours for global team meetings or urgent requests
  • Strong MS Office skills – Able to work with data sets in Excel and produce good quality visual presentations in PowerPoint
  • Skilled in usage and knowledge of MS SharePoint and Power BI
  • Prior experience in Operational Risk Management
  • Prior experience in Project Management
