Job Description

Role Summary

The DBA is responsible for the management of multiple database systems. They will provide support for Oracle databases on Red Hat Linux VMs on Azure, as well as SQL Server databases on Azure VMs and Azure SQL Managed Instances. This includes appropriate backup procedures for both minor data losses as well as for complete disaster recovery, developer and user support, database tuning, security, and general maintenance of the systems. In addition, the DBA will provide their guidance for projects requiring database changes to ensure that the highest standards are used in administering the database system.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide DBA support for SQL server on Azure VMs and Azure SQL Managed Instances

  • Provide Oracle DBA support including patching databases and partitioning tables.

  • Manage SQL server databases on Azure VMs and Azure SQL Managed Instances

  • Backup and restore SQL databases on Azure VMs and Managed Instances.

  • Monitor SQL Agent jobs and respond to critical job notifications. Troubleshoot and resolve the issues and if needed escalate issues and facilitate problem resolution.

  • Troubleshoot SSIS package failures and facilitate problem resolution.

  • Automates common database management tasks.

  • Creating documentation, maintenance plans, assigning and monitoring threshold values

  • What you Bring to the Table:

    • Create and evolve application documentation as required

    • Ensure that technical solutions follow best practices, are reliable and are easily maintainable.

    Requirements

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field.

    • 3+ years Oracle DBA experience

    • Hands-On Experience managing SQL database on Azure

    • Experience with backup strategies, and DR solutions for Oracle databases

    • Experience with table partitioning and reorg in Oracle

    • Experience with SQL transactional replication

    • Experience in monitoring and tuning MS SQL Server databases for optimum performance

    • Knowledge of indexes, analyzing query plans for performance tuning

    • Knowledge of SQL Server Integration Service (SSIS)

    • Knowledge of Linux shell scripting

    • Knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager preferred

    • Experience with ADF will be a plus

    • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git / SVN

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and tools (e.g., Snowflake).
