Head – Operations & Maintenance (O&M), Rooftop Solar – Pan India

Role Overview:
We are looking for a highly capable and execution-driven Head of Operations & Maintenance (O&M) to lead the end-to-end O&M function for our pan-India rooftop solar portfolio. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring maximum plant uptime, generation performance, safety compliance, preventive and corrective maintenance, client satisfaction, team management, and profitability of O&M operations across multiple sites and states.
This role requires a leader who combines strong technical understanding of rooftop solar systems with field execution capability, people leadership, vendor management, MIS discipline, and customer-facing maturity. The ideal candidate should be able to build scalable O&M systems, manage regional teams, standardize processes, drive SLA performance, and improve plant output through data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities.
- PAN-India O&M Leadership
- Lead the complete O&M function for rooftop solar assets across commercial, industrial, institutional, and other client categories.
- Manage centralized and regional O&M teams to ensure smooth operation of distributed rooftop solar projects across India.
- Build and implement a scalable O&M structure with defined reporting, escalation, and accountability mechanisms.
- Drive standardization of processes, checklists, maintenance practices, reporting formats, and site performance review mechanisms.
2.Plant Performance and Uptime management
- Ensure maximum system uptime, generation efficiency, and contractual performance across all operating sites.
- Monitor key performance indicators such as:
- Plant availability
- Specific generation
- PR (Performance Ratio)
- CUF where applicable
- Downtime analysis
- Response time and closure time
- Inverter/string/SCB-level performance
- Grid outage and site outage impact
- Identify generation shortfalls, recurring faults, underperforming strings/inverters, and module-level issues, and ensure timely rectification.
- Lead performance optimization initiatives to improve energy yield and reduce avoidable losses.
3.Preventive and Corrective Maintenance
- Design and enforce preventive maintenance schedules for all rooftop solar assets.
- Ensure timely execution of:
- Module cleaning schedules
- Preventive inspections
- Thermography where applicable
- Torque checks
- Earthing and LA inspection
- Inverter servicing
- ACDB/DCDB checks
- Cable inspection
- Junction box checks
- Structure integrity review
- Lead breakdown maintenance and fault response systems with strong TAT discipline.
- Reduce repeat failures through RCA and corrective/preventive action systems.
4.Safety, Quality and Compliance
- Ensure strict compliance with all HSE and electrical safety requirements across sites.
- Drive safe work practices for maintenance teams, technicians, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Ensure use of PPE, LOTO procedures, working-at-height protocols, electrical isolation procedures, and toolbox talks.
- Maintain compliance with internal SOPs, statutory requirements, client safety expectations, and applicable state/local regulations.
- Conduct site audits for safety, technical quality, and housekeeping standards.
5.Team Management And Capability Building
- Lead, mentor, and manage regional O&M managers, site engineers, technicians, and support teams.
- Set KRAs/KPIs for O&M teams and drive performance reviews.
- Build training modules and upskilling programs for field teams on troubleshooting, safety, reporting, and client handling.
- Ensure discipline, productivity, ownership, and responsiveness across the O&M organization.
- Create a strong culture of preventive maintenance, accountability, and service quality.
6.Client Management and Service Delivery
- Act as the senior escalation point for key O&M customers across India.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients and ensure high service satisfaction levels.
- Review contractual obligations, SLAs, uptime guarantees, performance commitments, and penalty clauses, and ensure delivery in line with contracts.
- Lead periodic client reviews and performance discussions with professional reporting and solution-oriented communication.
- Handle critical client issues, plant underperformance concerns, and service escalations effectively.
7.Monitoring, SCADA and Data Analytics
- Oversee remote monitoring systems, SCADA dashboards, inverter portals, and data analytics for fleet-wide performance visibility.
- Establish daily, weekly, and monthly monitoring and exception review mechanisms.
- Create systems for automated alerts, issue escalation, generation tracking, and downtime logging.
- Use plant data to identify trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for technical improvement.
- Ensure proper documentation and visibility of fault logs, service reports, generation reports, and maintenance records.
8. Vendor & Spare Management
- Manage O&M vendors, regional service partners, cleaning agencies, and technical subcontractors where applicable.
- Develop and monitor vendor SLAs, productivity, quality, and turnaround standards.
- Plan and control critical spare inventory for inverters, SPD, fuses, breakers, connectors, cables, MC4s, and other consumables.
- Minimize downtime arising from spare shortages and poor vendor response.
- Coordinate with OEMs and suppliers for warranty claims, replacement support, and technical resolution.
9. Budgeting, Cost Control and Commercial Discipline
- Own O&M cost planning and budgeting across the portfolio.
- Monitor manpower cost, travel cost, spare cost, vendor cost, and maintenance overheads.
- Drive cost optimization without compromising uptime, safety, or service quality.
- Support AMC/O&M profitability by improving resource utilization, planning efficiency, and maintenance discipline.
- Review warranty recoveries, claim closures, and cost responsibility allocation.
10. SOPs, Systems & Process Improvement
- Build robust SOPs for all core O&M activities and ensure field implementation.
- Standardize service report formats, audit templates, PM checklists, RCA templates, escalation matrices, and closure workflows.
- Improve response systems through digital tools, ticketing, centralized monitoring, and structured MIS.
- Work closely with EPC, design, commissioning, and monitoring teams to improve lifecycle performance and reduce handover defects.
- Create scalable systems suitable for a growing national rooftop solar portfolio.
Required Experience:
- 5–10+ years of experience in solar/electrical operations and maintenance
- At least 5+ years in a leadership role in rooftop solar O&M
- Strong hands-on exposure to distributed rooftop solar portfolios
- Experience in C&I rooftop solar is strongly preferred
- Proven ability to manage multiple sites / multiple states / pan-India teams
- Strong understanding of uptime, PR, energy yield, RCA, PM planning, and service delivery
