The National Service Scheme (NSS) program officer is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the NSS activities on campus. The role serves as a facilitator and mentor, guiding students in their journey towards social responsibility and community service. The role involves fostering a sense of citizenship, leadership, and commitment to social causes among the student volunteers.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Develop an annual calendar of NSS activities in collaboration with the Department of Student Support Services, student volunteers and University stakeholders.
- Coordinate with relevant authorities to ensure the smooth execution of NSS programs.
- Encourage student participation in NSS activities.
- Facilitate the enrollment of students into the NSS program and maintain accurate records.
- Conduct orientation programs for NSS volunteers to familiarize them with program goals, guidelines, and community service principles.
- Organize training sessions and workshops to enhance the skills and knowledge of NSS volunteers.
- Oversee the successful implementation of NSS activities, including cleanliness drives, health camps, awareness programs, and community development projects.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of NSS initiatives on the community.
- Manage the budget allocated for NSS activities and ensure transparent and accountable financial practices in NSS initiatives.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with university administration, faculty, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with external organizations, NGOs, and community groups for partnership in NSS initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records of NSS activities, attendance, and achievements.
- Prepare and submit timely reports to the university and NSS authorities.
- Provide leadership and guidance to NSS volunteers, fostering a sense of responsibility and social consciousness.
- Motivate and inspire students to actively participate in community service activities.
- Encourage NSS volunteers to promote social values such as civic responsibility, environmental sustainability, and community engagement.
- Plan and execute special events and camps, including annual camps, to provide NSS volunteers with intensive community service experiences.
- Identify and acknowledge the efforts of outstanding NSS volunteers.
- Recommend volunteers for awards and recognition at university and NSS levels.
- Ensure that NSS activities align with the core values of the program, including selfless service, social responsibility, and community engagement.
- Organize and participate in events commemorating important days such as NSS Foundation Day, International Youth Day, etc.
- Facilitate discussions and activities addressing social issues like gender equality, health awareness, and education.
- Conduct regular evaluations of NSS activities and gather feedback from volunteers.
- Use feedback to improve the effectiveness of NSS initiatives.
- Ensure that NSS activities adhere to university policies and guidelines.
- Collaborate with university authorities for support and compliance.
Skills Required:
- Strong commitment to and demonstrated skills for working with a diverse student

- Previous experience in coordinating or participating in community service programs.
- Familiarity with NSS guidelines and principles.
- Knowledge of and experience with budget preparation and management;
