Job Description

What you'll do:

As a Mechanical Group Leader, you'll be responsible for planning and delivering key engineering and process developments for mechanical equipment and systems used in strip processing lines. You'll lead a team, ensuring top-quality designs, on-time delivery, and cost efficiency, while always seeking innovative ways to improve functionality and reduce costs.

Job Purpose:

  • Plan and deliver key engineering and process development for mechanical equipment and systems for strip processing lines, enabling operational excellence and supporting the organization's growth objectives.

Key Result Areas:

  • Development and sustenance of engineering equipment, processes, and systems.
  • Meeting targets around Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
  • Innovation mindset to bring in new designs to improve functionality and reduce cost.
  • Lead and plan engineering activities for the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand the technical contract requirements and develop basic and detailed designs.
  • Lead a team of engineers and draftsmen to carry out engineering activities.
  • Plan engineering activities for projects and manage resource allocation.
  • Ensure timely completion of activities.
  • Perform design calculations.
  • Prepare 3D models, related drawings, and other engineering documentation.
  • Generate bought-out specifications and approve offers received from suppliers.
  • Ensure the correctness of drawings.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing for discrepancies and deviations.
  • Coordinate with Erection and Commissioning for site support.
  • Understand process requirements, define necessary instruments, and develop process instrumentation diagrams (P&ID).
  • Coordinate and manage all engineering design activities across internal teams and external service providers.
  • Ensure the best available technology is used in equipment.
  • Communicate with customers and participate in technical discussions.
  • Be proactive in continuous improvement and REX (return on experience) processes.
  • Create and check engineering-related documents as per the Quality Management System (QMS) and Design Approval Matrix.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • BE/B.TECH in Mechanical / Production Engineering from a reputed college.
  • 2 to 4 years of Experience in engineering design of terminal equipment related to steel processing or related to Mechanical equipment (material handling, heavy engineering)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and Autodesk Inventor for 3D Modelling.
  • Should have worked with Product Data Management Tools (like Vault).
  • Strong skills in engineering drawings and mechanical design calculations.
  • Should have worked on P&ID and possess knowledge of instruments used in process lines.
  • Ability to bring innovation in design to improve functionality and reduce cost.
  • Good planning & decision-making skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Ability to work in an Agile and collaborative environment.
