Job Role: Manufacturing & Assembly Technician

Location: Indian Institute of Technology Bombay,Mumbai

About the project:

The project aims to develop a Cyclorotor-Based Versatile Orientation Drone, leveraging novel propulsion and control architectures for agile maneuvering and VTOL capabilities. The research involves integrated structural, aerodynamic, and manufacturing design leading up to a functional prototype with embedded control. This is a hands-on, interdisciplinary RGD project ideal for candidates who are passionate about drones, new propulsion systems, and real-world design challenges.

ualification and Key Skills Required:

  • ITI, Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum 35 years of hands-on experience in mechanical fabrication, prototyping, and assembly of complex systems.
  • Proficiency in metal and composite fabrication techniques (machining, welding, 3D printing, etc.)
  • Familiarity with mechanical drawings and CAD models (SolidWorks/Fusion 360 preferred).
  • Ability to identify and source mechanical components (bearings, linkages, motors, fasteners, etc.)
  • Experience in using hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment.
  • Understanding of tolerances, fits, and alignment for rotating components.
  • Basic knowledge of rotor dynamics and balance considerations is a plus.

Job Profile:

  • Translate CAD designs into physical components using appropriate manufacturing methods.
  • Fabricate mechanical parts for the cyclorotor system as per design specifications.
  • Recommend suitablematerials, fasteners, joints, and off-the-shelf parts for efficient and robust assembly.
  • Assist in iterative design modifications by collaborating with design and analysis team.
  • Carry out precision assembly of the cyclorotor mechanism including shafts, blades, linkages, and housing.
  • Maintain fabrication logs and ensure proper documentation of build procedures and part lists.
  • Participate in prototype testing and help troubleshoot mechanical issues.
  • Manage workshop inventory and coordinate with vendors for part procurement and outsourced machining
