Roles and Responsibilities:
Client Delivery
- Lead handling of assessments, reassessments, and appeals, including drafting submissions and representing clients before tax authorities.
- Manage search & seizure cases end-to-end, including:
- Reviewing and analyzing seized documents, data, and statements.
- Coordinating with investigation wings and other authorities during post-search proceedings.
- Preparing comprehensive replies and evidence submissions in response to notices issued under sections 153A/153C and related provisions.
- Advising on disclosure strategies, voluntary compliance, and mitigation of potential litigation risks.
- Prepare and review legal submissions, briefing notes, and paper books for CIT(A), ITAT, High Court, and other appellate forums.
- Provide advisory on complex direct tax matters, including BEPS, GAAR, indirect transfers, AMP adjustments, and withholding tax.
- Analyze client operations to identify tax planning opportunities and compliance gaps.
- Review statutory notices and orders, respond with optimal legal and factual arguments, and proactively update clients on case progress.
- Draft memos, opinions, and reports, ensuring thorough legal research and alignment with judicial precedents.
Research & Technical Opinions
- Conduct exhaustive legal research using internal and external databases.
- Stay updated on recent judicial decisions, legislative amendments, and regulatory developments in direct tax law.
- Share knowledge and updates with team members through training sessions and internal communications.
Team & Leadership
- Supervise, mentor, and guide team members, including Articles and junior staff, in drafting, research, and representation.
- Allocate assignments effectively and ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.
- At the Senior Manager level: Lead large-scale litigation projects, manage multiple client portfolios, and contribute to practice growth initiatives.
Other Requirements
- Willingness to travel for client meetings, hearings, and proceedings including outstation travel.
Desired Candidate Profile:
- CA with 5+ years (Manager) or 9+years (Senior Manager) of post-qualification experience in Direct Tax litigation, including search & seizure proceedings.
- Proven track record of representing clients before tax authorities and handling high-stakes litigation.
- Strong drafting, legal research, and case strategy skills.
- Excellent communication, client relationship management, and team leadership abilities.
