Job Description

As a Manager of Engineering, you will be accountable for the overall engineering and technical health of solutions within this domain area and engineering talent management within and across your teams. A Manager of Engineering will possess significant Engineering Management experience and is expected to demonstrate leadership competencies as a leader-of-leaders.

As the leader of multiple teams, you will focus on coaching, mentoring, developing and growing engineering talent, and championing an engineering mindset, agile practices, and adherence to company and industry standards. You will also be responsible for establishing and executing the strategy, defining platforms/capabilities, building and leading cross-functional teams, and communicating to senior-level stakeholders.

This role will lead teams that help mature various business and technical capabilities across the TJX India Office. Although the primary focus will be on the Payments function, this role will also partner with and support the POS engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engineering leader of TJX Global Payments solutions, technology, and innovation roadmap
  • Direct people management responsibility for engineering managers and engineers at varying levels of seniority
  • Coaches, leads, and develops engineering talent
  • Represents the product team as a member of the Engineering Community of Practice
  • Partners with stakeholders to drive technical solutions that meet business needs
  • Ensures mechanisms for technical oversight are in place
  • Ensures best engineering practices are followed/adopted for operational excellence
  • Partners with stakeholders to ensure roadmaps & strategies align to architectural standards
  • Contributes to high-level architecture to drive engineering & operational excellence
  • Accountable for product health and delivery on engineering operational targets
  • First point of contact for strategic requests from a technology perspective
  • Acts as an escalation point for issues related to delivery of technical components
  • Provides technical oversight of design, development, and deployment of Xstore POS customizations, integrations, and payment solutions
  • Ensures adherence to software engineering best practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, and secure coding standards
  • Ensures compliance with PCI-DSS, GDPR, and other relevant regulatory standards
  • Implements robust security practices across all POS and payments solutions
  • Partners, manages, and challenges vendors
  • Analyzes technology trends and influences future strategic direction

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in systems, business management, or related field with at least 5 years in technology leadership (including HR responsibilities)
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • 3+ years leading and developing teams as a manager
  • Strong team management and organization skills; ability to lead, motivate, and direct a global workgroup
  • Strong performance management skills (coaching, goal setting, accountability across levels)
  • Experience with Oracle Retail Xstore POS and payment integrations (e.g., Verifone, Adyen, Worldpay, FreedomPay)
  • Well versed in DevSecOps best practices and experience with Cloud Technologies
  • Proven experience building and supporting scalable, high-performance applications
  • Strong experience with agile delivery model
  • Strong problem-solving ability
  • Proven experience recruiting and onboarding associates

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Deep understanding of payment processing technologies
  • Strong understanding of retail operations, in-store technologies, and omnichannel commerce
  • Experience with Java, Oracle DB, REST APIs, and cloud platforms (e.g., OCI, AWS, Azure)
  • SAFE Agile Certifications (preferred)
  • Application Integration (REST, SOAP, Data Exchange, etc.) experience (plus)
  • Exposure to a diverse portfolio of applications (plus)
  • Experience with estimation and budgeting.
