We are looking for a dynamic Legal - Chief Manager to join our team in Yokohama, who will play a crucial role in safeguarding the organizations legal interests and ensuring compliance across all legal functions.
Job Description: As the Chief Manager - Legal, you will be responsible for supporting the VP Legal & Secretarial while independently handling all legal and corporate secretarial functions. You will ensure that the legal operations are conducted efficiently, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and in line with corporate governance standards. The role covers a broad spectrum of responsibilities including contract management, litigation, regulatory oversight, and special projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contract Management (30%): Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, ensuring compliance and minimizing legal risks.
- Litigation & Regulatory Oversight (30%): Manage pre-litigation, litigation, and regulatory matters, ensuring timely resolution and risk mitigation.
- Corporate Secretarial (10%): Uphold corporate governance standards and support the company secretary functions.
- Legal Research, Compliance & Risk Management (15%): Conduct legal research, ensure compliance, and implement strategies to mitigate legal and business risks.
- Stakeholder Management, System Development, MIS (13%): Maintain effective communication with internal stakeholders and develop systems for efficient legal operations.
Required Competencies:
- Expertise in contract drafting/negotiation
- Experience in international contracting & cross-jurisdictional advisory
- Knowledge of data privacy, trade sanctions, banking documents
- Strong drafting skills with the ability to manage pressure
Functional Competencies:
- Ability to work independently on drafting, research, and negotiation of legal documents.
- Ability to manage external attorneys and engage with internal stakeholders independently.
- Strong experience in litigation management and handling critical regulatory matters.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and legal tools (document management, compliance management, contract management systems).
- A results-oriented, Can-do attitude with adaptability, flexibility, and resourcefulness in a fast-paced environment.
