Our team performs 2nd line oversight and surveillance of Nasdaq's financial risks, including investments, accounts receivables, banking relationships, foreign exchange (FX) exposures and counterparty risk through trading venues. We focus on monitoring, surveillance, and control of aggregated credit, market, liquidity, and capital risks, and we report to Nasdaq's Global Chief Risk Officer.

You would partner with business leads to improve the risk control framework around all financial risks. The Lead Financial Risk Manager will work alongside a colleague in Vilnius reporting into the Financial Risk Management Team's Director (based in the US) who in turn reports into the Global Head of Financial Risk Management and Risk Technology (based in London).

Your role and responsibilities:

As a Lead Financial Risk Manager, your focus will be to improve the risk control framework around all financial risks. Besides working closely with your colleagues in Bangalore, you will also work closely with Nasdaq teams in other countries.

  • Lead Nasdaq's global model risk management program to ensure periodic validation of models used across Nasdaq's business lines.
  • Monitor credit and counterparty risks across the company, using Nasdaq's proprietary Consolidated Risk System. Assist in establishing criteria to determine whether any of Nasdaq's clients have an elevated credit risk (credit watch list). In cases of elevated credit risk, work with business managers to discuss and implement risk mitigation actions.
  • Participate in the credit reviews and ongoing monitoring of fixed income investment issuers (mainly for commercial papers).
  • Periodically monitor market risks taken by Nasdaq, particularly investment risks across investments performed by the Treasury department to timely identify potential risk of loss in value. Certain stress testing models (including VaR) are used to determine plausible losses in various interest rate, market
  • market, and liquidity scenarios to inform risk control enhancements.
  • Monitor risk levels against defined financial risk tolerances and report any deviations along with risk mitigation recommendations.
  • Assist the team in building out the FX risk management program, and participate in strategic initiatives that help enhance financial risk monitoring for the company.
  • Prepare monthly summary reports for senior risk forums highlighting key current financial risks including risk mitigation recommendations (if any), Nasdaq portfolio changes and updates on strategic initiatives.
  • Report on risk events such as bankruptcies, market disruptions, sudden market moves, or financial issues that clients may be having, and recommending actions for risk minimization or recovery.
  • Participate in Global Risk Management council meetings and provide input on a variety of topics including risk management practices, top risks, emerging risks, and general capital market environment and economic context.
  • Support the team in responding to counterparty risk related incidents and broader financial crisis situations.

We expect you to have:

  • At least 10+ years experience in Financial Risk Management or Financial Modelling
  • Experience of operating a 2nd line model risk management program.
  • Proven experience as a market, credit, or financial risk specialist, including capital markets experience in equities or fixed income.
  • A comprehension of FX hedging strategies and oversight programs.
  • Knowledge of financial risk oversight in the context of vendor management programs.
  • Experience in responding to, or supporting the response to financial stress events.
  • Strong analytical skills with Excel are expected.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong command of English.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and delivery focused individual with a collaborative style to support the team as required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a quantitative field in Science or Engineering.

It would be great if you

  • A graduate degree, a Financial Risk Management (FRM) certification, or a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification are preferred.
  • The ability to use analytics and statistical packages such as R, MATLAB, or similar programming skills are a plus.
  • Knowledge of the optimization methods or machine learning models is also a plus.
