Role Overview: Design Engineer – LV & MV Switchgear, RMU, VCB, CSS- Department: Design & Engineering
- Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka (On-site)
- Reporting To: Plant Head / CEO
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Design Engineer to drive the design and development of Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) electrical products—including Ring Main Units (RMU), Vacuum Circuit Breaker (VCB) panels, Compact Substations (CSS), LT/HT panels, control & relay panels, and associated power distribution systems. You will lead electrical and mechanical design coordination, preparation of manufacturing drawings, BOM creation, compliance with IEC standards, and technical support across production and testing phases.
Key Responsibilities1. Electrical & Mechanical Design- Prepare comprehensive engineering documentation for RMU panels, VCB panels, Compact Substations (CSS), LV/MV switchboards, metering/control panels, and FRTU/automation panels.
- Develop Single Line Diagrams (SLD), GA drawings, schematic and wiring diagrams, interconnection diagrams, cable schedules, terminal plans, and panel fabrication designs.
- Handle the selection and sizing of CTs/PTs, protection relays, busbars, cables, switchgear components, and control devices.
2. Standards & Compliance- Ensure all designs strictly comply with IEC 62271, IEC 61439, utility specifications (e.g., BESCOM/ESCOMs), and customer technical requirements.
- Prepare technical compliance documents and type test references.
3. Manufacturing & Project Execution Support- Release accurate drawings and Bill of Materials (BOMs) to production.
- Provide technical clarifications to production, purchasing, quality, and testing departments while supporting prototype development and design optimization.
- Prepare customer approval drawings, incorporate revisions, coordinate with suppliers for technical data, and optimize designs for manufacturability and cost reduction.
4. Testing, Documentation & ERP- Coordinate routine and type testing activities, including internal testing, CPRI testing, and customer inspections. Analyze results and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain version control of drawings and update BOMs and design records within ERP/PDM systems.
Qualifications & RequirementsRequired Education & Experience- Education: Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering. Additional certifications in AutoCAD, EPLAN, or SolidWorks are preferred.
- Experience Range:
- For LV Design: 2 to 8 years of experience in LT panels, PCC/MCC panels, control panels, and distribution boards.
- For MV Design: 3 to 10 years of experience in RMU, VCB panels, CSS, HT switchgear, and protection & control systems.
Technical Skills- Deep working knowledge of LV and MV switchgear systems, protection schemes, relay coordination, busbar calculations, earthing systems, and electrical safety standards.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, EPLAN / AutoCAD Electrical, MS Office, and ERP systems.
- Familiarity with SCADA/FRTU integration is a distinct advantage.
Preferred Industry Background- Switchgear manufacturers, panel builders, utility vendors, power distribution companies, EPC contractors, or electrical automation firms.
