R&D unit in KTI is responsible for developing digital services at KONE. It's the development engine for our Digital Services such as KONE 24/7 Connected Services, Office Flow and Partnership Ecosystem. Our common goal at KONE is to keep the end users safe and people flow uninterrupted. KONE moves 2 billion people every day and that means our services can really make cities better places to live

Why this role

We are seeking a Variant Configuration Engineer with expertise in CPQ Developments. This role will focus on Development and Maintenance of Product Models for Elevator & Escalator products manufactured at various KONE Factories while maintaining high operational standards. The successful candidate will have a strong technical background, experience in the SAPVC or PDMVC and the ability to manage operational KPIs effectively. The role requires a hands-on approach and the ability to work comfortably in diverse cultural environments. Some travel is required.

What will you be doing

Project Leadership & Mentoring

  • Lead Projects, mentor CPQ developers and improve their competency.
  • Plan and prioritize development tasks, ensuring on‑time and high‑quality deliverables.
  • Conduct code reviews, enforce development standards, and drive continuous improvement.

Technical Ownership

  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for CPQ solution architecture and development.
  • Oversee configuration, customization, integrations, and enhancements for the CPQ platform.
  • Translate business requirements into technical designs and ensure alignment with architecture principles.
  • Troubleshoot complex system issues and guide the team in root-cause analysis.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with Product Owners, R&D Platforms, R&D Subsystems, GI, Supply Chain Pricing Team and Area Offering Managers.
  • Gather requirements, propose solutions, and maintain transparency across stakeholders.
  • Manage expectations by communicating progress, risks, and milestones clearly.

Process & Quality Management

  • Define and implement coding standards, best practices, and documentation guidelines.
  • Ensure CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and deployment processes are followed.
  • Promote automation, performance improvements, and system scalability.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 12+ years of experience in CPQ software solutions.
  • Solid understanding of Scaled Agile (SAFe) or similar Agile frameworks.
  • Proficiency in related technologies such as CRM systems, APIs/integrations, scripting, SQL, and workflow automation.
  • Sound understanding of pricing models, quoting workflows, product configuration rules, BOM, and approval processes.

Preferred Skills:

  • Data Analytics, AI & ML expertise is preferable.
  • Elevator knowledge is added advantage to this profile.
  • Knowledge in KONE Products and Processes.

Are you the one

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (ECE/E&I/CSE/IT) / MCA / MSC Computer science
  • Minimum 12+ years of experience in CPQ software solutions
  • Strong facilitation, coordination, risk management, and stakeholder alignment capabilities.
  • Strong communication, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to coach and upskill team members.
  • Ownership mindset with a strong focus on delivery excellence.
  • Willingness to explore new technologies and contribute to architectural decisions
