Position Summary...

Provides overall direction by analyzing business objectives and customer needs; developing, communicating, building support for, and implementing business strategies, plans, and practices; analyzing costs and forecasts and incorporating them into business plans; determining and supporting resource requirements; evaluating operational processes; measuring outcomes to ensure desired results; identifying and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; promoting a customer environment; and demonstrating adaptability and sponsoring continuous learning. Develops and implements strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce by diagnosing capability gaps; recruiting, selecting, and developing talent; supporting mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning; and leveraging the capabilities of new and existing talent. Cultivates an environment where associates respect and adhere to company standards of integrity and ethics by integrating these values into all programs and practices; developing consequences for violations or non-compliance; and supporting the Open Door Policy. Develops and leverages internal and external partnerships and networks to maximize the achievement of business goals by sponsoring and leading key community outreach and involvement initiatives; engaging key stakeholders in the development, execution, and evaluation of appropriate business plans and initiatives; and supporting associate efforts in these areas.

About Team:

The Data & customer analytics team for US Omni tech closely partners with our U.S. stores and eCommerce business to serve customers by empowering associates, stores, and merchants with technology innovation.

Walmart U.S. provides the deep assortment that our customers appreciate whether they're shopping online at Walmart.com, through one of our mobile apps or shopping in a store. The focus areas include customer, stores and associates, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science and search & personalization.

By relating directly to the customer journey, covering areas like, Supply chain, Merchandizing & Marketing.

The access to all the US omni data, help us in getting the data into data lake making us the largest data org with 700 + global data team.

What you'll do:

  • Driving the whole data engineering charter, bring best practices, solve key enterprise problems for multiple markets
  • Coordinate across retail value chain functional teams of data scientists, analysts, product managers, engineers, and business operators on value realization initiatives.
  • Develop and leverage a consistent framework to identify and prioritize uses cases based on business value.
  • Play a key role to solve complex data problems (business & operational), pivotal to Walmart's business and drive actionable insights.
  • Demonstrate incremental solution approach with agile and flexible ability to overcome practical problems.
  • Lead and collaborate with the team to assess customer needs and translate the business problem into an analytical problem.
  • Establish data engineering best practices and drive the use of state of art techniques. Manage development and support of data fabric platform that caters to needs of real time events and batch data processing
  • Manage end to end development of data products that include traditional RDBMS and big data platforms
  • Build and lead a high-performing team of data engineering professionals.
  • Drive continuous improvement by researching industry best practices and incorporating it to our company
  • Drive the execution of multiple business plans for your own project team and deliverables.
  • Represent the team in Senior leadership meetings and actively collaborate with business and product groups.
  • Research and drive in bringing in open-source solutions into Data space
  • Develop and implement best practices and standards across the Data team
  • Engage with Global Data leadership globally in setting up priorities for the team
  • Create a collaborative environment across geography for delivering best services to the customers around the globe.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring and development opportunities for Senior Managers and Senior Data Architects.
  • Attitude to enjoy in a fun, fast-paced environment.

What you'll bring:

  • Good academic record and graduated (B.Tech/ M.Tech) from a reputed institution
  • Bachelors with 15 - 20 years of experience OR Masters with 12 - 15 years of experience in building data integration solutions involving Big Data technologies.
  • A strong understanding of data and reporting engines, data modelling and warehousing, and data transformations and pipelines for supporting real time and batch-oriented events processing.
  • Experience in leading large/medium sized development team as a Senior Director.
  • Experience with relational databases (Oracle / My SQL), non-relational databases (Cassandra, HBase) and Big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark
  • Experience in building end-to-end data products (DaaS) using latest technologies and architecture (like microservices architecture). This included good knowledge of DevOps.
  • Experience with distributed real time / micro batch computation systems such as Spark
  • Experience in the eCommerce domain will be a huge positive
