Position: Head of Chess Orchids The International School

Location: Bangalore

Type: Full-time

About the Role

Orchids The International School is looking for an experienced Head of Chess to lead, design, and implement chess programs across our 100+ schools. This role is ideal for someone with a deep chess background and proven experience in academic program implementation. You will shape chess as a tool for critical thinking, strategic reasoning, and cognitive development while mentoring both students and teachers.

This is a strategic leadership role where your experience will drive high-quality, impactful chess programs that are recognized for both educational value and student engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and rollout of a school-wide chess curriculum that aligns with academic and cognitive development goals.
  • Mentor and guide students, chess coaches, and academic coordinators to deliver consistent results across schools.
  • Plan and oversee inter-school and intra-school tournaments with standardized formats and fair competition standards.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to ensure chess programs are integrated seamlessly into academic schedules.
  • Innovate program structures to keep students engaged, motivated, and progressing year after year.
  • Leverage technology and online platforms to enhance chess learning, practice, and competitive experience.
  • Track and analyze program performance, providing actionable insights for continuous improvement.
  • Promote chess as a strategic educational tool while strengthening the schools reputation and academic profile.

  • Proven background in working with schools or educational institutions, with curriculum/program implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives across multiple schools, ensuring standardization and scalability.
  • Recognized chess credentials through certifications, tournament achievements, or coaching experience.

  • Strong mix of vision-setting and hands-on program management.
