Stantec's Pune, India office is seeking a GIS Analyst with Remote Sensing specialization to join our Environmental Services Geospatial team. This role involves working closely with GIS specialists and environmental subject matter experts to scope, build, and deliver production grade Earth Observation (EO) analytics. The incumbent will lead the end-to-end workflows including data preprocessing, object-based and pixel-based classification, change detection and feature extraction.
The position requires proficiency in ArcGIS Pro/Image Analyst, eCognition (OBIA), and automation using Python/arcpy and FME. Knowledge of publishing services into AGOL and AGS is crucial.
Key Accountabilities
- Project Leadership: Leading projects from scoping to delivery, including managing timelines, budgets, and client communications.
- Technical Expertise: Tasks such as performing classification, change detection, feature extraction across multiple data types (optical, SAR, LiDAR), and developing OBIA rule sets in eCognition.
- Analytical Scope: Conducting spatial analyses for land use, environmental, and infrastructure planning, as well as integrating Earth Observation (EO) outputs with GIS for scenario development.
- Workflow Automation and Documentation: Maintaining and documenting OBIA workflows, processing LiDAR for terrain modeling, and supporting corridor/encroachment analysis.
- Publishing and Field Support: Publishing services and dashboards to ArcGIS Online/Enterprise and supporting field deployments.
- Data Management: Maintaining geodatabases, QA/QC standards, producing technical maps and reports, and utilizing open EO datasets and cloud-native formats (STAC/COG).
- Collaboration and R&D: Collaborating with cross-functional teams and contributing to R&D initiatives.
Qualifications And Skills
- 4 to 7 years of experience in remote sensing and GIS within an engineering consultancy, environmental firm, or multidisciplinary project environment.
- Hands on expertise with ArcGIS Pro (Image Analyst) and ArcGIS Online/Enterprise, including publishing, sharing, and performance tuning.
- Proven experience designing eCognition (OBIA) rule sets with multiresolution segmentation and classification across optical, SAR, and LiDAR data.
- Strong foundation in remote sensing principles including indices, radiometric correction, projections, resampling, mosaicking, and accuracy assessment.
- Competence in supervised/unsupervised and object/pixel based classification workflows with effective post classification cleanup.
- LiDAR processing skills including ground/non-ground classification, DSM/DTM generation, contour extraction, and corridor/encroachment analysis using eCognition, ArcGIS Pro LAS tools and/or LAStools.
- Proficiency in ENVI or ERDAS IMAGINE for advanced imagery workflows.
- Automation experience using Python (arcpy), ModelBuilder, and FME Form for ETL and schema QA.
- Familiarity with open EO datasets and cloud native formats (STAC/COG), with basic understanding of licensing.
- Experience with ArcGIS Deep Learning tools or integration of deep learning inference for feature extraction and classification is desirable.
- Experience with GEE for large area and time series EO analytics is desirable.
- SAR preprocessing skills including Sentinel-1 GRD orbit correction, radiometric terrain correction (RTC), speckle filtering, and use of texture or polarimetric features for change detection is desirable.,
- Familiarity with ALOS PALSAR (C-band and L-band) data for forest monitoring, land cover classification, wetland mapping and terrain analysis is desirable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to document workflows and manage schedules and budgets.
- Should be able to manage workloads with shifting priorities.
- Knowledge of Quality Management Systems would be plus.
