What does a Geologist Do
Geologists study the composition of earth, work and assess the naturally occurring disasters and their adverse effect on the environment. They also explore the minerals, naturally occurring Oils, natural gases and resources that are found under water and study the quality of these natural elements by conducting geophysical as well as geochemical tests.
A geologist has to study the detailed history of earth and how its structure, material, form, processes and organisms have changed over time. They have to study and analyse geological time scales, geological maps, charts, aerial photographs, rock and fossils samples. Most of the time they work in the field and conduct their research in the laboratories. Thus, a geologist plays an important role in exploring important mineral wealth and natural resources for better use.
There are several opportunities coming up in this area including discovery of existing and new minerals, with Artificial Intelligence, this field is set to be really interesting in the next decade. Salary growth maybe initially slow but will be very stable and increase Year on Year with good salary increase after 5-7 years experience in the industry.

- To draw a geological field map by examining various rock types and geological structures
- To make predictions based on researched data and previous earth's history on naturally occurring phenomena such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, storms etc.
- To study rock core logging for mining and explorations, mud logging for oil and natural gas exploration and geotechnical logging to examine the strength or weakness in Rocks.
