Deep decarbonization of electricity generation together with the electrification of several end-use applications is necessary to address the climate crisis. Energy Storage Systems (ESS), such as batteries, are a key enabler for deep decarbonization to balance supply and demand. Schneider Electric's Energy Storage Center of Excellence enables deep decarbonization through the development of innovative energy storage products that are battery technology-agnostic, scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable

Schneider Electric is looking for a Senior Design Engineer Embedded Firmware for Battery Management Systems (BMS) & Battery Packs for its Energy Storage Center of Excellence (CoE). SE's Energy Storage CoE enables company's growth through the development of innovative energy storage products that are battery technology-agnostic, scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable.

Incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Embedded Firmware for Battery Management Systems for UPS and Storage applicationsincluding Module Level, Rack Level and System level.
  • Design, development, testing, debugging, documenting and launch to mass production BMS & Battery Packs that meet regulatory and safety standards, and reliability requirements.

Your expertise in BMS firmware design and validation are critical elements for success. This experience combined with a track record of relevant technical innovation, curiosity, communication, structured analytical thinking, sound business judgment and true leadership skills would make you successful in this role.

We are looking for someone who has managed or played a key role in a team that has taken to production a battery management controller and control algorithms in the energy storage or automotive industry.

Competencies

Responsibilities:

  • Define, design and derive system requirements for the product which covers (but not limited to) following aspects:
    • System block diagram
    • System interfaces
    • Decomposition into logical sub systems
    • High level HW and FW specifications/ design
    • System constraints
    • Use cases.
    • Mission profile
  • Define and communicate system requirements for the product to the cross-functional team (FW, HW, validation) and external teams using formal methodologies such as:
    • Use case diagrams.
    • State flow
    • Sequence diagrams
  • Work closely with system architect, FW team and HW team to understand and author/ review system requirements.
  • Conduct and/or participate in systems - failure modes and effects analysis (SFMEA), design-failure modes and effects analysis (DFMEA), FTA, DFA, etc
  • Participate and represent the team in technical audits and assessments e.g. IEC60730
  • Derive and review test plans/ test cases for DVP, integration tests

Must-have requirements:

  • Good understanding of the system architectures and methodology
  • Experience in requirement elicitation and management
  • Strong understanding of hardware and software functions specific to embedded systems
  • Experience with embedded systems product lifecycle development
  • Hand on experience of Battery Management Systems and its applications
  • 3+ years of experience in the battery field (industrial/ automotive)

Nice-to have requirements:

  • Have worked on design of Battery Management Systems (HW/ FW)
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity standards
  • Background/experience in system engineering
  • Preferable with a master's degree in embedded systems or related field
  • Experience with FMEA and Root Cause Analysis
  • Working knowledge of safety-critical features like charge control, thermal control, fault detection, and diagnostics for battery and energy products.
  • Knowledge of regulatory & safety requirements such as UL9540/UL1973/IEC62619/IEC 60730, etc.
  • Working knowledge of various battery chemistries like Lead Acid and Li-ion
  • Detail-oriented, organized, deadline-driven
  • Demonstrated excellence in analytic, strategic and critical thinking
  • Strong communication skills
  • Being able to think out of the box
  • Systems thinking with outstanding collaborative skills
  • Demonstrated ability to drive issue resolution with speed

Qualifications

  • BS or higher in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or proof of exceptional skills in related fields, with practical experience
  • Strong software fundamentals including architectural design, algorithm development, data structures, code modularity, and maintainability
  • 3+ years of experience in battery management systems
  • 7+ years of solid experience in embedded firmware development
  • 2+ years Agile Product Development experience
