FinOps Consultant is a role within FinOps CoE team responsible for supporting client engagements with Monitoring, Reporting, Allocation, Budgeting, Forecasting & Optimizing the cost of running the cloud infrastructure and maturing the FinOps capabilities across platforms.
A FinOps Consultant shall bring considerable experience in the areas of cloud financial reporting and benefit tracking. The Consultant should be able to:
- Design & Deploy persona-based decision empowering multi-dimension cost & metrics dashboards for immediate visibility into spend & unit economics
- Strengthening tagging hygiene standards and cost allocation improving showback & chargeback across accounts/subscription & products enhancing the TBM-aligned governance.
- Establish governance guardrails, evidence packs, and compliance controls to maintain operational and financial accountability.
- Collaborate with product owners, engineering leads, and cloud governance to continuously evolve cost‑efficient platform blueprints
- Provide Usage based Cost Optimization Recommendations using Cost billing & Observability data identifying orphaned, unused, legacy and over-provisioned cloud resources
- Build on Strategic Pricing Recommendations which improve Commitment (Savings Plan & Reservations) Coverage for VMs & Databases
- Evaluate & device other non-conventional services and means of Optimization based on Re-typing & Modernization of workload
- Discuss, Drive & Prioritize Recommendations with respective group & application owners to action & implement cost saving
- Set up and track FinOps KPIs, evidence pack & build realized savings tracker to measure the success index of FinOps
- Produce and evolve FinOps playbooks, enablement materials, and end-user accelerator artefacts.
Experience and Skills Required
Core Competencies Required
- 6+ years of work experience with 4+ years of experience related to cloud and IT financial management
- Completed post-graduation in MBA/ MMS and graduation in B.E / B.Tech
- FinOps Certified Practitioner is a must and Cloud certifications - Azure is Preferred
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI & Azure Native Cost Tools in building dashboards & reports
- In depth understanding of the financial parameters & Cloud Billing Construct. Should have working understanding of Payables, Amortized Cost, Discounting, Savings Plan & Reservations, Credits & Taxes in Azure billing
- Good Understanding of Azure EA & MCA Billing Mechanism
- Good understanding of Core Cloud services and their billing mechanism (AWS/Azure/GCP) like VM, SQL Database, AI & ML (Azure ML & Azure AI Foundry), Azure Monitoring Services, Azure Cost Management Interface, Storage (File, Block & Object) & Kubernetes (AKS)
- Experience creating playbooks, governance artefacts, and running regular cost review cadences.
- Good Understanding of FinOps Framework capabilities and Industry relevant Cost Management Benchmarks
- Practical experience building dashboards on 3rd party Cloud Cost Management tools
