Who we are

CivicDataLab (CDL) works at the intersection of data, technology, design and social science to strengthen access to public information, evidence-based decision making and citizen participation in governance. CDL harnesses the potential of open knowledge movements to strengthen the data-for-public-good ecosystem and enable citizens to engage in matters of public reform. We work closely with governments, non-profits, think-tanks, and universities to enhance their data and technology capacity to better data-driven decision-making at scale.

What are we looking for

We are currently looking out for a person to lead the Finance and Operations to helpguide the team and strategise and manage the organisation's finances at our Delhi Office in close collaboration with the executive leadership and the founding team.

We are looking for someone with a minimum of 7-8 years of experience in managing/leading organisation and project finances with post-graduation in Finance and Management background to apply for this role.

How we work

CivicDataLab has its base location in Delhi, while having satellite offices in Assam and Himachal Pradesh. We follow a hybrid model where our bandhus work out of office for a minimum of 3 days a week. We use open-source tools and agile methodologies in organising our work.

Requirements

Requirements:
  • Organisation Finance Management

  • Lead the organisation finances including company operations and fund-flow management and related responsibilities.

  • Responsible for preparation and presentation of forecasts, financial models and reports for runway analysis on a timely basis to help plan the operations

  • Help build and manage the organisation MIS in coordination with the accounts team

  • Oversee company's statutory and legal provisions are met in coordination with the accounts team

  • Liaise with the HR and people management team to help ensure various organisational SOPs are followed seamlessly

  • Conduct periodic financial reviews and create plans for CDL leadership teams with the state of finances, and come up with risk mitigation plans

  • Responsible for employee expense reimbursements payouts and reporting

  • Assist in the company's performance appraisal process in coordination with the Strategy team and HR lead

  • Initiative and Project Finance Management

  • To work closely with initiative leads for the Budgeting requirements of Proposals (Bids/Grants)

  • Effectively undertake project finance management and help present periodic P&L statements for projects across organisation

  • Monitor the fiscal strength of all projects and alert the leadership team upon gaps with possible solutions

  • Ensure all project/non-project outflows are executed in line with the budget heads assigned

  • Maintain database of all necessary contracts, expenditure data across projects in coordination with the accounts team

  • Create, operationalise and timely review budget reporting templates for project financial management

  • Organisational Operations

  • Maintenance of the below operating essentials-

  • Company asset register

  • Domain Subscriptions

  • Legal and other technical credentials

  • Enable the finance team to help establish engagement with company's Banking partner to ensure good credit line

  • Work in partnership with the HR lead to ensure various contract renewals are met on a timely basis for consultants etc

  • Maintenance of operations tracker for Vendors, Consultants, any other agencies etc

  • Conduct capacity-building workshops with the leadership team on explaining critical finance and operations guidelines.

  • Skills you should bring

    • 8+ years of experience in managing company operations, project finance and management responsibilities preferably at startups or social enterprises.

    • Prior experience in budgeting, forecasting and reporting of financials

    • Prior experience of working on budgeting for government bids, multiyear grants etc

    • Prior experience of working with operation management softwares like Zoho, Google Suite, etc

    • Prior experience of team management and assisting directors is preferrable.

    • Oral and written fluency to work with Hindi and/or other Indian languages along with English

    • Fluency in English and excellent writing and communication skills

    • Strong planning and organisational skills, and the ability to be able to set priorities, plan timelines and meet deadlines

    Remuneration:

    Rs. 14-17.5 LPA (including perks)
