Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site position for an Electrical Design Engineer, based in Pune. We are looking for a high-energy Electrical Design Engineer passionate about motor physics, electromagnetics, and control systems, who wants to contribute to end-to-end development of novel motor and actuator designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and development of custom motors and electromagnetic actuators, including PMSM/BLDC, synchronous linear motors, induction motors, and special machine topologies.
- Build plant models for motors, drives, and power electronics using MATLAB, Python, and FEMM.
- Perform electromagnetic calculations: magnetic circuit modelling, FEM analysis, loss estimation, and performance optimization.
- Support drive system design, FOC-based control modelling, invertermotor interaction studies, and controller tuning.
- Develop analytical and simulation models (dynamic and steady-state) in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and FEM tools.
- Work with embedded and mechanical teams to transition designs from simulation to prototype.
- Participate in prototype validation: testing, characterization, and troubleshooting.
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and participate in internal design reviews.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's/master's degree in Electrical engineering, Power Electronics, Mechatronics, or equivalent discipline.
- Strong foundation in electromagnetic theory, machine design, and power electronics.
- Experience with FEMM, plus exposure to ANSYS Maxwell/JMAG/COMSOL is advantageous.
- Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and Python for simulation, modelling, and optimization.
- Programming familiarity in Python and C++ability to write simulation scripts, mathematical models, and automation tools.
- Understanding of BLDC/PMSM control, FOC algorithms, motor commutation, and inverter systems.
- Strong analytical skills with ability to translate theory into real hardware prototypes.
Preferred (Bonus) Skills
- Experience with microcontrollers (STM32, ESP32, dsPIC, C2000) and motor control firmware.
- Exposure to PCB design for motor drivers and power stages.
- Knowledge of linear motors, reluctance motors, or high-force actuator topologies.
- Experience with scripting automation in Python/C++ for optimization loops.
