An established international financial institution is seeking a senior legal leader to oversee its legal function in Singapore. As part of its continued growth and governance focus in the region, the organisation is seeking an experienced legal leader to oversee legal matters and provide strategic legal support to its Singapore operations and selected regional business activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic legal advice across a broad range of banking, financing, regulatory, and commercial matters.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on financing documentation, commercial agreements, and banking-related contracts.
- Support business units on legal and regulatory developments impacting operations.
- Manage disputes, claims, investigations, and external legal proceedings where required.
- Partner closely with internal stakeholders to identify and mitigate legal and reputational risks.
- Oversee and coordinate external counsel across multiple jurisdictions.
- Advise on governance matters, policies, internal controls, and legal risk frameworks.
- Support regulatory compliance initiatives, including data protection and banking regulations.
- Lead legal projects and contribute to regional legal initiatives.
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer admitted to practice in a recognised jurisdiction.
- Minimum 15 years of legal experience gained within banking, financial services, private practice, or a combination of both.
- Strong knowledge of banking, lending, financing, regulatory, and commercial legal matters.
- Experience advising senior management and business stakeholders on legal and regulatory risk.
- Proven track record managing complex legal matters and external counsel.
- Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of Singapore's legal and regulatory environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Mandarin to review legal documentation and collaborate with stakeholders and counterparties across regional markets, including China.
