Job Description
The role reports to the ED and is responsible for:
Leadership and People Management
- Leading multi-disciplinary teams to foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement
- Handling performance monitoring, discipline and development
- Building strong industrial relations along with the HR teams - compliance to labour laws, and state specific labour guidelines
Operational Expertise
- Leading Production planning, inventory management & control, and meeting throughput targets
- Sustaining and improving steelmaking processes (melting, casting, rolling)
- Ensuring adherence to maintenance schedules, machine uptime optimisation and controlling cost of maintenance
- Ensuring quality targets are met and the processes remain compliant to ISO standards
Financial and Cost Management
- Managing budgets, cost and working capital
- Monitoring and Improving KPIs like scrap yield, profitability, productivity ratios, and overall plant financial performance
Problem-Solving and Decision Making
- Understanding data to analyse and troubleshoot technical issues
- Reducing operational disruptions by resolving quality issues
- Implementing process improvements for efficiency and cost reduction
Compliance and Safety Focus
- Ensuring compliance with Pollution norms, Factory Acts, Labor Laws and ESG standards including state-specific industrial guidelines
- Conducting audits and implementing correcting actions
- Ensuring and promoting a zero-incident workplace
The Successful Applicant
An ideal candidate will have
- Minimum 15-20 years in the steel manufacturing industry, with a focus on scrap-based operations
- Hands-on experience with induction furnaces, continuous casting machines, and rolling mills for TMT steel production
- Proven track record in managing metal recycling, scrap procurement, and processing (including vendor networks, quality control of raw materials, and optimizing yield in ferrous scrap-based melting processes)
- Experience of overseeing large-scale plant operations, including utilities, maintenance, and achieving high-volume production targets
- Proficiency in communication with different stakeholders including investors, promoters and vendors
