Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled BIW Design Engineer with experience in the design and development of automotive Upper Body and Underbody structures. The candidate will be responsible for creating and modifying BIW components, ensuring compliance with OEM design standards, manufacturing feasibility, safety regulations, cost targets, and vehicle performance requirements. The role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams including CAE, Manufacturing, Tooling, and Program Management throughout the product development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop BIW Upper Body and Underbody components such as Floor Panels, Cross Members, Side Members, Roof, Pillars (A/B/C), Dash Panel, Reinforcements, Wheel House, Tunnel, and Closures interfaces.
  • Create 3D models, assemblies, and 2D manufacturing drawings using CAD tools such as CATIA V5, NX, or Creo.
  • Perform packaging studies, tolerance analysis, stack-up analysis, and design feasibility assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with BIW design standards, crashworthiness, NVH, durability, pedestrian safety, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Coordinate with CAE teams to implement design improvements based on structural, crash, and performance simulations.
  • Support tooling and manufacturing teams during prototype development, stamping feasibility reviews, and production launch activities.
  • Participate in design reviews, DFMEA, DFM/DFA studies, engineering change management (ECN/ECR), and release activities.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional stakeholders to resolve design and quality issues.
  • Prepare technical documentation, BOM management, and engineering reports.

Required Skills:

  • Strong understanding of Automotive BIW Design Principles.
  • Hands-on experience in Upper Body and/or Underbody Design.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal design, welding, hemming, joining technologies, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up.
  • Experience with CAD tools such as CATIA V5, Siemens NX, or Creo.
  • Understanding of automotive development processes, APQP, DFMEA, and engineering change management.
  • Familiarity with crash, NVH, durability, and manufacturing considerations.
  • Knowledge of automotive standards and OEM design practices.
