About NGSF Internship Program

NGSF Internship Program 2026 a scientific organisation registered under the Trust Act of India (1882) and based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. NGSF provides funded research internships in life sciences for undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled at Indian institutions.

Selected students conduct research under the supervision of a Principal Investigator (PI) or Professor at an Indian research laboratory or academic institute.

The NGSF internship allows participants to work on research problems in fields such as bioinformatics, computational biology, biological sciences, and life sciences. Students collaborate with research mentors and gain exposure to laboratory research or computational research projects.

The program supports two internship formats:

  • On-site research internships conducted in a laboratory under a Principal Investigator.
  • Remote internships in computational fields such as computational biology.

The internship duration ranges between two and three months and is typically scheduled between May and July 2026, depending on the availability and agreement between the student and the supervising research mentor.

Internship Requirements and Important Conditions

  • NGSF does not provide internship opportunities directly. Students must first secure acceptance from a PI or Professor.
  • The host laboratory or institute must be outside the student’s own institute of study.
  • NGSF states that it does not support internships where interns have to pay a fee to gain experience.
  • Students are advised to choose a PI or Professor with at least three years of faculty experience and at least three peer-reviewed publications as corresponding author.
  • Remote internships are allowed only in Computational Biology, and remote interns will make up a maximum of 20% of the final selected cohort.

Scientific Communication Requirements

Besides funding the internship, NGSF requires selected interns to complete specific scientific communication activities during and after the internship period.

  • Contribute an article to the NGS blog
  • Submit a monthly progress report
  • Give a presentation on the internship experience as part of the NGS Internship webinar program

Higher Studies Mentorship and Dissertation Support

Selected interns receive additional support beyond internship funding. Through NGSF’s collaboration with Scholar scape, selected interns can access free 1:1 mentorship for higher studies abroad.

Research Areas Covered in NGSF Internship 2026

NGSF Internship Program supports research internships in selected disciplines within the life sciences domain. Students work with a research mentor at an Indian institute and participate in projects related to the following scientific areas.

Bioinformatics and Computational Biology

Students interested in computational approaches to biological problems can work on projects involving biological data analysis, computational modelling, sequence analysis, and other data-driven life science research tasks. This area also supports remote internship options where computational research can be conducted without laboratory access.

Biological Sciences

Projects in biological sciences involve experimental or theoretical work within laboratory environments at participating Indian institutes. Students work under the supervision of a Principal Investigator (PI) or Professor and gain exposure to research practices used in biological laboratories.

Life Sciences

The internship program broadly supports research within the life sciences. Students collaborate with their assigned research mentor to work on a defined research problem during the internship period.

The exact research topic is determined by the Principal Investigator supervising the internship and the research environment of the host laboratory or institute.
